Archers Rest is in the process of moving home to bigger and better premises, over the next week you will notice some obvious changes. In order for us to make the changes we need to make we will need to take up residence in a temporary home for a few days, this is a necessary evil I'm afraid. Archers Rest may also be closed for business for a few hours when we make the final change. I should also add that as part of the conversion process we may lose some posts or threads, this will be kept to a minimum. We will keep you posted as things progress. I'm sure you will agree once we have settled into the new place that it was well worth the minor inconvenience . Please check your bookmarks and store www.archers-rest.com as the current url for the forums will soon become invalid.

So why are we moving I hear you ask.
Well, Steve B and I have decided that to take AR where we really want to go we have to branch away from our current hosts MYFF, MYFF have provided us with a great service and without them we would not have made it this far, but there comes a time when you need to fly the nest and go it alone.
Steve B has offered the hosting space and has very kindly given up some of his time to work on the new home of AR.
This thread is where you find out the latest on how the move is progressing, a bit of an AR house moving blog if you like, just so you all know where we are at and when the final move will occur.
Steve can probably explain a lot of the advantages of the move better than I can but I'll outline some of the reasons for you.
We wanted a better website to go alongside the forums, the move will enable us to do this.
Once up and running (and the dual log in issues have been resolved) the website will feature a brand new interactive photo gallery, with a 'host your own' gallery option for AR Supporters.
The forums will have more features enabling us to move these forward as time goes on, we will be upgrading from phpbb2 to phpbb3.
Once we are settled in changes will continue to happen as we improve the service that AR provides.
One thing that will not change though is the friendly feel that AR prides itself on, we are all individuals and I hope are all happy with the 'one to one' feel that AR has.
We are open to suggestions on possible new content/features for AR's new home so if there is something you would really like to see on AR then please feel free to suggest it.

One of the benifits for us behind the scenes will be a better management system of the AR Awards (the medals) and stars awarded, this has been a painstaking task collating the information as the old & new forum systems are not compatable so all details have had to be taken manually and will have to be put into the new forums manually as well, so when the 'switch' takes place please bare with us as this is not a priority and may take a couple of days before all information is up to date.
The main aim is to get the forum up and running asap and to keep any 'downtime' to an absolute minimum.
All being well we are still aiming for the 13th Feb as the move date.

Just a quick one for the members here, there is no need to register at all as when we move the database of the forum here it will (fingers crossed) be the same over at our new house , so your user name and password should not change, anything that you may see over in the forum in our new house will be gone come the change over

Thanks for the hard work that you are both putting into this, just wanted to wish you well with the final changeover.
As for myself I'm about as computer illeterate as they come, it'll be fun trying to find my way round the changes

We are keeping things as simple as possible, no need to complicate things where it's not needed, if anything the new place should be easier to use

At some point over this weekend we will make a move to the temporary home, this is to enable us to do do a database export in the format we need it, if all goes well on Monday and everything slots into place at the first attempt we may well just open up the new shop if not don't panic, it won't be far away
Over the next few days you may experience some down time whilst the url's are switched. If you want to save the url for the temporary home it is http://archersrest.zaphod3.myfreeforum.org/index.php

ferget that! I'll wait to Valentines day before rendezvousing with my beloved but new AR.
(when you say "don't panic" - I do a better impression of Capt Manwaring when faced with computer crises)
