This is a light hearted look at our sport.

Why do we call it Field archery, when we shoot in woods & forests

A field is an open space no trees or anything else for that matter, this contradicts what we actually do, doesn't it

Just a thought, no need to get serious over this. It's interesting though how these terms come into being, when in reality they are completely opposite to the fact

That is something I always say when I'm talking to somebody who doesn't know about archery or only knows about target archery; "Target archery is done in a field, field archery is done in woods; don't ask me why"

(I've also moved this to General Archery Discussion)

I would field this question but I fear I'd be off target and I'd get a clout for my flight of fancy.

I think it is obvious , a wood or forest is only a field with trees in it . To show i'm right here , if you cut down all the trees in a wood /forest , what would it be ? Yes , correct , A FIELD .
OK ,I'll get my coat !!!!

No, a farmer as they are often 'outstanding in their field'

As long as they are 'outstanding in their field' and not 'standing in their field'  when we are shooting

Just make sure you look down when stepping along in farmers' fields, eh? Gives a new meaning to the word "piles".

Hey, if you think about it, that's the place to start, because the only way to go is up.

Going back to the original question or at least part of it,
Quote:
Why do we call it Field archery,
I'm curious why you folks on that side of the pond mix Field Archery (IFAA & FITA) in with 3D and treat them all the same? Pretty easy to type or say "3D" and it certainly explains better what you are talking about. Just curious.

Dave
