Hello all,

I can't remember the last time I had been so busy for near 2 1/2 months, but now I'm caught up, finally.  Took on a couple "moon'lighting" jobs doing some remodeling for a couple folks and finished up just last weekend.  I don't think I'll take on anymore of these.  One job is enough, for now!

I see we have started a new Target League season, so I'll be sure to get into this 2009 campaign.  Also, my congratulations to all the catagory winners and those who took part in 2008 and made this possible.

It's time to get back to the longbow now.

Later friends,
Joe

Hi Dawn!

I've got lots of catching up to do.  I just took care of some important business.  Wanted to make sure I got my donation in to help with the support of AR.  I do enjoy this website and all the folks here.

Hey Joe, good to hear from ya! Thought all yer bows were frozen up there, but sounds like you're still thawed, so good luck.

Hi Steve,

Last month we were in a big deep freeze, but January hasn't been so bad, though the wind is wicked.  Yesterday and today high 40's that would creep into the 50's I'd bet if this wind would go down.

I did manage to get my January arrows shot for the target league today.  My house and fence sure helped as a wind break.   Not near the snow we had last year around here.

Thank you Steve, it's good to be back and have some free time.  Moonlighting does help pay the college expenses and holiday bills.  I just hope my daughter decides 4 years is enough and gets her teaching degree.  It also wouldn't hurt my feelings if someone decided to put a hold on Christmas for a couple years...

Hi Joe,

Happy new year mate !! Glad you are back with us.

Any new bows to tell us about since you were last on AR or have you been too busy ?

Glad the weather has been kinder to you this winter.

All the best,

Les

Hello Les,

Matter of fact I did start on a new longbow yesterday afternoon.  It is a 72" laminated maple bow with maple backing and hickory core center that I roughed out about three months ago and never got back to until yesterday.  You know me, always trying new lamination combinations for bows.  I might put a silk backing on this one as well?  That last bow I did (Maple flat bow, I put a black polyester backing on and it worked out great) so maybe this time go with the silk?

How about you Les, any new builds going on?  As I've said before, this bow making gets into your blood and there's no cure except to build a bow.   And that ain't all bad!

Hi Joe,

Nothing as creative as building a bow for me. It's all I can do to keep up with making arrows to replace the ones that have come to grief in the woods !!

Mandy and I shot round with a primitive archer at the 3D champs last year. It was so interesting to chat to him about bowmaking and all the highs and lows along the way. He explained the process to us, from selecting the wood in the beginning right through to the finished bow. Really fascinating.

Since then the idea of having a go at a primitive bow really does appeal to be honest - maybe when I get to master my AFB a little better !!

Catch you later Joe - have to get the fletching jig out again !!

Les
