Ok...my first posting!!
Hello all

I hope this isn't a dumb question...but what are the thoughts on cock feather in...cock feather out.
It seems to be the general concensus of "C F O",and as I am a newcomer to the art of field archery (only a couple of months) and shoot a recurve with feathered woodies, everyone says "out"
But across the pond, quite a few Hunters in the USA seem to swear by "C F I", they claim it clears the shelf and riser alot better?
I do appreciate they are not generally hunting at the distances set out on some courses, and that may play a big part in the differences of opinion.
However, I have been playing around with this, and it seems to work just fine, but I am not the best to judge, and dont want to start something that may lead to bad form at a later date.
But....It does seem to work!

Does anyone out there shoot cock feather in?

Hello Teflon,

Good to see you on here, enjoyed shooting with you on Sunday.
You were shooting extremely good for saying you were on your 1st shoot
40 targets and scored 550 points WOW!
Good on you.

any way to answer your question it was one i first posed myself months ago
and i did try it for some time and found no discernible difference.
But it did feel to start with i was on to something, but i now suspect just positive thought on my form showed the improvement not the cock feather position.
This was on an AFB and i found it better to rotate the nock a little to equalise hen feather contact onto the 2 sides of the shelf.

Best thing is to try it yourself and see what you think.

Mark and Zoe

and this was the thread hope it helps.

If you can find one of those hi-speed videos of a shot (Beiter has one but I don't have the link) you will see that a properly tuned arrow will clear the riser completely by the time the fletching is passing. The key part of that is "properly tuned arrow". In that circumstance it probably doesn't matter if the cock feather is in, out, up or down. If you are getting contact at the riser from your fletching it's a tuning problem more than a matter of what position you have the cock feather in.

Thanks dave and selwoc

Didnt realise the flex or paradox in an arrow was so severe!
Seems to suggest my arrows are pretty much in tune with the bow!
Nice to know!
