Hi all
Still waiting for my lessons so no bow as yet  I have visited a store a few miles away and he gave me some good advice regarding not to buy yet.
I will probaly end up with some sort of recurve bow but I do not wish to rule out an AFB I just wanted to know what sort of accuracy you can get with this sort of bow compared to a recurve with all the bells and wistles on. Or is it just up to the skill in the end.
Cheers Phil.

To know if an AFB will be any good for you or not really depends on what you want out of the sport and what sort of shooting you're doing and with what society.
To answer your first question a recurve with all the sights and stabilisation on it is more accurate than any AFB. A very good archer with an AFB will outshoot a poor archer with a recurve, but if the the archers have similar skill levels then the recurve archer will win hands down.
If you are in a target club or GNAS field club and want to shoot competitively then don't get an AFB. If you want to make things hard for yourself and set a real challenge then get an English Longbow. GNAS doesn't recognise the AFB as a style. You can still shoot one, but you will be shooting against barebow recurves which are more accurate. Saying that there's nothing to stop you using one for fun, just because you like it!
If you are a member of NFAS or IFAA then AFB is a recognised style so you can compete on level terms using one.

So the questions you need to ask yourself is what do you want to shoot, how competitive are you and what type of archery do you want to do? With that knowledge it would be easier to know what style of bow you should be looking at

In the right hands an AFB can shoot as well as NFAS H/T Recurve class, it's a little harder to do but can be done, in the last 8 years at the NFAS national champs the top AFB score has been within a couple of points of H/T (mostly above).

I agree, to a point, but what scores would those archers put in if they'd put in the same effort on shooting a recurve?

I stick to the point that I made above. If you want to shoot competitively check the rules of your society and get a bow that fits in with them well, if you want to shoot for fun get what you like
