Dawn,
Steve Hallard has been running his rental system for a few years now and he will rent anything from just a bow right through to the full kit: Bow, Stabilizers, Sight, Arrows, pressure Button, case, stand, quiver, tab, arm guard, etc.
The bows are excellent (although they do look a little dated against the new designs out at the moment). I have shout many MB and some GMB scores with my old one. The only down side is that they do not take the international limb fitting, so you cant mix and match limbs and so are stuck with the ones that Stylist build. Saying the they are very good quality and are shot by many international archers.

Hi Null point,
My advice to you is get the bow first, this is the easy one, the arrows can take a lifetime to determine, the holy grail if you will, But seriously, the arrows are so dependant on Bow poundage, bracing height, draw length, paradox, etc, etc. especially for Longbows so off centre.
Having said all that most average arrows will fly good, but not excellent, without lots of fine tuning or luck.
Spend £40 on materials for a dozen and make them yourself, you get a better understanding this way i feel.
Then again it's probably me being finnicky...lol
Have fun
Mark

I believe that the rental guy may well be the same guy who come's down to southampton every once in a while.
I've spoken to a few people at the club about it and from what they tell me, the terms are good. i'll be looking at it long and hard, but other considerations have come up so its going to be a while before I get ANY equipment.
its ok though, the club are quite happy for me to borrow their equipment to go on ith.

Depends what you want from your arrows hunter, easton jazz's are always a good cheap starting point, xx75's or X7's are also decent hardwaring arrows that wont break the bank, all the afore mentioned are ally arrows that will straighten if bent slightly.

Hi Nullpoint,
If you are using the club's equipment then stick with whatever arrow you get with them.
If you are looking to buy a recurve at some point, then you won't go far wrong with the Jazz arrows. Any good archery specialist will fit the arrow type, length and size to the bow you buy.
At the moment I am still shooting with the Jazz ones I had made up with my beginner's wooden riser recurve. Although some have bent a bit and one or two have lost their fletchings, I have found, overall, they aren't a bad arrow and suit the bow very well.
My partner shoots with XX75 platinum plus arrows on his Win&Win pro-accent carbon bow and he rather likes the arrows with it, but then he hasn't bent or had to buy more arrows just yet!
With arrows its a question of where you shoot (outdoors or indoors), budget and frequency of shooting.

Alternatively I believe merlin archery have a limb upgrade policy where they give you back 50% of the cost of the limbs when you decide to upgrade (someone may be able to confirm this for me) |
Last I heard they were still doing it |
I bought my bow in April and they offered this deal to me. They did however specify thatit was within a year of purchasewhich is still pretty good
