anybody know what limbs will fit a merlin supernova, (apart from supernova limbs that is)? more to the point does anyone know where i'll get any? merlin dont do them anymore. thanks all!

ben says they dont make the limbs for the supernova anymore but could'nt realy provide an alternative. my friends just bought a max & they look similar just wondering if anyone's done any limb swapping with these bows before, they did suggest a few ways to get more range . . roughly same pointers you gave in last post, that got me another 20yds but i'm now at its limit. i took the limbs off last night & the bottom limb is fair bit weaker than the top so it's deff limbs i need, dont matter what they off long as they fit, any suggestions?

There are a number of problems associated with putting a set of limbs from a different model onto your bow. The first and probably the easiest is if they will fit into the limb pockets and into the limb bolt hole. The second is if the cam will fit at the other end. The length of the limb is vital to ensure the cams work as they were intended otherwise you have to go into altering cable lengths, string lengths etc, which is a real black art. Even if the limbs are the right length and width, the pocket angle can alter their marked weights so a 50lb limb on one model might become a 55lb or a 45lb on another model. This was the reason why I wondered what Merlin had suggested. Your best bet is to try and find a replacement from the Merlin range but this could end up being a needle in a haystack job. I almost hate to say this but I think your options are pretty limited down the repair route, more likely you may have to consider the replace route _________________ MERLIN ARCHERY CLUB GETTING RATTIER BY THE MINUTE

yeah i was thinking that myself so i bought another bow but the supernova's been claimed by the wife who's just started her 6wk course & on the lowest setting is a comfortable draw for her, slightly long but a no3 cam will shorten the draw to a more girly length so not a total loss - in fact having problems with the bow & looking for a fix has taught me more about bows this week than i learnt in the first 7 wks of archery so yeah, far from total loss! my 2 boys have also started so i'm looking for a couple of compounds for them, anyone had any experience with whisper creek bows, been looking at panther & phantom, boy's are 11 & 14?

Whisper Creek bows are not a brand I have shot personally, but I do know a guy who used them and his results are excellent. Have you considered the Mathews Genesis for the boys? They are used in the States for the National Youth programme, or whatever it was called, Have an infinitely adjustable draw length and have dealer back up in the UK. I have had experience of these bows and can testify to their quality.

Just as a side note and not wishing to start any arguments; we tried to teach my son to shoot on a compound as we are both committed compound archers and he never got to grips with it. He borrowed a beginners recurve from Merlin and asked Ben to do a swap!. We can't get him to put the thing down. My opinion FWIW is that, when introducing someone to the sport, they should be able to sample the options before making their own choices

thanks they're doing the course with recurves but have both asked for compounds & liked the look of the whisper creeks, i've emailed a few shops in USA for availability of these in left handed With conflicting responses so waiting for whisper creek to get back to me on that one, see how things develop on the kids bows . . . BUT . . . back to the continuing supernova saga. . . . the wife claimed it since it was so easy to draw but ben from merlin told me to carefully check the limbs & sure enough the bottom limb is delaminated pretty bad, dont know how i didnt notice it earlier but now i've been an archer for 2 months now so i know just about everything about archery, ha, soo . . is this bow dangerous for her to use with a delaminated limb? is it likley to go 'SNAP' at some point or will it just get weaker & weaker to a point where she'll be able to throw the arrows further with her hand than she can with the bow? anybody got any experience with delaminated limbs?
