BTW - Should've mentioned - I an office poster and therefore can only post 8 - 5 Mon-Fri. To clear any thoughts that I'd just abandined the thread |
Do you have to buy the cardboard to use? Here in the states a person can go just about to any business and get it free for the hauling even if that company is recycling which many are. Eventually the cardboard makes it a recycling center. Of course that depends on the individual also, if they're recycling conscious. I like to think I am. I recycle.

Updates:
The "Straw Bale" idea proves fruitless - I managed to obtain 3 (FOC) from a local farmer who was good enough to deliver them to the woods in exchange for a go on my bow.
Straw Bales are NOT a cost-effective way of shooting!! I put 12 arrows through the bow and had to dismantle the bales to retreive my arrows making the bales useless for the second end
The "Cardboard" idea suggested by Dawn (and others) work superbly!! It came to my attention after your posts that my Father-In-Law works for a major publiching company and has access to a warehouse FULL to the rafters of high quality Double-Corrugated boxes.
In conclusion:
8 dbl Corrugated Boxes folded flat and back-to-back
Place an old rug behind as a backstop (Just incase)
That concoction (??spelling??) will stop a 30lb bow at 10M

I might have to find me some cardboard. I am thinking of shooting into my garage from the drive but there is a window at the back, any ideas for a backstop that isn't 50 something quid from an archery dealer?

I found that if you soak (and I mean REALLY soak!!!) a sheet of 8 x 4 x 3/4"chipboard and rest that behing your target that tends to work.
The arrows bury themselves half way in but never go through!
8 x 4 x 3/4" Chipboard from B&Q = £18.00 (`ish)

I got my butt from MFI.... it cost £4500 but I got a free kitchen with it........ took the cooker hood box and stuffed it with the cardboard that was around the units then I used some spray foam to lock it all together. I used a big poly bag shrink wrapped with a hot air paint stripper to make it weather proof.....it works great !.
Now when am I going to find the time between practice to fit the damn kitchen ?

Have you tried an ethafoam butt? Quicks do one and they're ideal for dragging into the countryside. We bought one ages ago and use it regularly for shoots in the forestry. Its very lightweight and once you attach some string/rope around it, quite portable. If you have a roofrack on your Smart car, then attach the ethafoam butt to the roofrack and make sure its well strapped down.
