sight screws!

hi, can anyone advise on how to keep sight screws from falling out when shooting!, i know if you have a good sight this may not be a problem but think back through the mists of time and try and remember!!! (no one asked me to be nice when i joined) regards steve

Oh and be careful which thread loc you get too, it comes in two strengths on permanent and one undo-able, one's red one's blue, as it is Monday morning I forget which way round

I think the blue loctite is the undo-able MJ I have also used bees wax on the threads to keep them in place , that does two things its water proofs the area and "fills up" the thread to make it reasonably tight...well it works for me

I use Loctite "Threadlock" at work,we buy it in larger comercial bottles, in a red bottle, as well as the bearing fit medium strength. The bearing fit does the same job, despite the name, if youre pushed. Dont use Superglue Cyanoacrylate as others here say, it will be very tricky to undo! All the others will release if heated to around 150 centigrade!, not what you want to do to your nicely painted alloy riser, but on threaded components they usually unscrew fairly easily. If offered a medium strength, get that one. _________________ BAZZ

Otherwise get either spring or shakeproof washers, would guess your screws are 4, 5 or 6mm. Should get these from an electrical retailer or even Wilko's or other hardware shop . Unless you have countersunk headed screws? PTFE tape on threads will work, too. Not that you need waterproof screws ! Will work like the suggested beeswax & tighten thread tolerance _________________ BAZZ

glad I saw this one - my son insists he needs a new bit for his compound bow - the last "fix" I did was with ptfe tape - but this thready thing sounds even better. thanks guys Barracuda Babe _________________ When is the next holiday? I need it now.

Having looked at the bottle today, it is "studlock 270" we use at work, not threadlock

The other thing that you can do is to put some vibration damping on your sight. There are a lot of those rubber mushrooms available these days and oner of them is sure to fit somewhere on your sight. I uaed to shoot a multi pin sight and i had a LIMBSAVER screwed to it. It never shook loose. _________________ If it aint made of wood...It aint no good!

Ive also ben told that nail varnish gives a good grip but still gives movement without locking up. woozle
