I have a question.  I've been watching some of the World Cup
Archery Competitons on 'YouTube' (Archery TV videos)...  My
question is;

What is the average/or standard pull weight of those competition
Recurve Bows the men and women are using.  It appears they are
shooting from 70 meters.

Just wondering what pull weights are being used?  It seems some
hold at full draw for some time before releasing.  That's why I wonder
about the pull weight.

I dunno, I pull about 43lbs at full draw, and I suppose I hold for about 4 seconds per shot, which is easily comfortable, for the duration of a tournament.

I too pulled about 43lb full draw in my recurve days, I wouldn't imagine top competition archers are pulling much more than that to be honest

One of my clubmembers, who is a member of the dutch national FITA team, shoots a recurve of 48,5#
And from what I've heard the other team-members all shoot bows from more then 50#

43lb you say? Maybe we should start a club?     I also draw 43Lb on the fingers, and can shoot 70m quite comfortably.

It would seem so far that the 40 pound range is common for these bows
and those that shoot this discipline of competiton.

Most of the top level Olympic recurve men are shooting close to 50# these days and there are a couple shooting a bit over that. I have read the Korean women (arguably the top recurve shooters in the world) are shooting bows in the mid 40s.

This is all up from what it was years ago when I got into this stuff. Men shot in the high 30s to low 40s and women were pulling something, usually in the low 30s.

45# is all my shoulder can take, currently i shoot around 43# with my AFB and 45# with the recurve.

Compounds a different story, my Con 3 is set at 58#

It seems that the mid 40s is the norm.

My bow was weighed at 42lbs by Tony @ Perris Archery when I bought it. This is weight on the fingers eg.. at 29" draw.
Always found it ok for target shooting at all distances, with the Easton A.C.E  Carbons I had.
Once shared the target with Keith Muspratt, a onetime England international. Big fella, he was shooting about 48lbs on his fingers!

An interesting range of pull weights to be sure.  I wonder why the
change from lighter pull weights in earlier years to the ones that
we're reading of here now?  Speed I'm guessing which is understandable
when it comes to bucking the wind.

I'd kind'a like to have a competition recurve some day.  It just looks like
a lot of fun, and I'm sure it takes a lot of practice to become good from
the ranges the men and women shoot these from.

I know we're talking recurves here but I did watch a video of Alan Wills
shooting his compound in competition and he had a strained bicep muscle
in his bow arm...  Now I was so impressed with his sportsmanship as he
fought his way through this injury and his "left" bow arm just quivered
when he drew that bow,,, what a gamer!!!

If I did get a competition recurve someday I don't know if I'd want to
go much more then a #40 pounds pull as I keep think of Al Wills and
that arm shaking from an injury,,, I would probably shake with no injury
if I went any heavier pull weight and had to hold for an extended period
of time before loosing the arrow.
