Good evening all,
I have just taken up target archery as my sport, after a few lessons I am now completely hooked.I spent many years as a target rifle man so appreciate that quality equipment pays in the long run. To that end I have purchased a Shibuya Ultima recurve sight, I wish to learn how to setup the sight, even though my club are more than willing to help, a few hours club time would detract from the spirit of helping all. Is there anyone out there who could provide a simple point by point method of tuning this sight.

Many thanks in anticipation.

My comments will not be specific to your sight, but should apply to setting up any sight.
Starting with the block that fits onto the riser. That should fit so that it doesn't shake loose, I have used a thin "Gasket" of leather.
Next, the extension bar fits into that block. The bar should point straight ahead not left or right.(otherwise, moving the bar from longest to shortest extension, would also change the left to right position of the actual sight.)
Next., the scale bar that supports the sight should be parallel to the bow string when viewed from directly behind the bow. ( as the sight it moved up and down the scale bar, the actual sight should not move to left or right compared to straight ahead)
The scale bar is fixed to the extension bar with two screws. Usually, one fits through a slot not a hole, so the bar can be adjusted to be parallel to the string.
Finally  the threaded rod that holds the sight aperture should be horizontal when the bow is upright.
When initially setting up the sight it is a good starting point to have the aperture directly above the arrow. How far above depends on how far away the target is. You may find when shooting, that the sight has to be moved into the riser or away from it. That will be trial and improve.
I'm not sure if that is going to help, but ask again if anything is unclear.

Evening Geoff

Thanks for your reply, and it has pushed me forward, would it be fair to say as I am using the beginners pin to set the sight to that setting and then adjust.

Hi Skips,
By pin, you mean the thin pin with a coloured blob on the end, yes? Is that encircled by a short tube? When setting up, the pin would be directly above the long axis of the arrow. If that gives arrows landing to one side of the gold, adjust to give impacts in the gold or equally spread round it; depending on shooting skill at the time.
That is the final stage. The other bits need doing first so they don't need to be changed later on. They are the foundations , if you like.
