Bows now sporting my own strings!!!! yummy!!
So to get up to date.
We were invited to Burton Bridge Archers Annual Dinner and presentation. They are a really top bunch of people and even though I suppose we are interlopers as we shoot for Merlin, they have gone out their way to be friendly and helpful. Even though we can’t join the club, they have included us in every activity and we are knocked out by the warm reception we have had. I love shooting with them and look forward to enjoying future events there.
The buffet dinner was without doubt the finest I have ever received and the evening was accompanied with numerous fund raising games (split between the Air Ambulance and the indoor venue they are building), a singer, lots of laughs and maybe too much vino. At some point we decided to have a challenge the next day. 50p a point on a 70m Fita. My head was a little heavy as we set off for the Washlands. The wind was blustery and unfortunately, Ian, with whom we had spent the evening before, could not get his recurve to reach 70m in the conditions, so we moved the target into 50m. I got off to a real stormer and given the conditions 320 at the half way point was better than I could have hoped for. However (there is always a However with me), Then conditions worsened, I finished with a 623 and £7.50 to the good. Both mine and Ruthy’s arrows were in a some really strange angles. In fact I went 16 arrows without a 10 in the last 2 dozen, whilst Ian’s ACC’s, remained seemingly unaffected, demonstrating the advantage of proper target arrows. Again though, it was a pleasure shooting the Prestige.
Finally,
Today was spent cleaning my bike and the Roadster. Having finished the domestics, I built some bare shafts and went outside. Ever alert for the Police Helicopter that regularly visits my home practise sessions. I sent the fletched shafts, followed by three bare shafts. Although on the same horizontal plane, they were 15cm apart at 18m. I wound half a turn off the bow and reduced the gap to 8cm. I then took a further ¼ off and dropped the piles from 90 to 85 and got them 5cm apart. I left it at that, as a good trade between poundage, speed and spine. I know that I will have to go to Maxima 250’s to get the best out of the bow, but for now these will have to do. The bow is now down at @ 53lb and is still quicker than the Hoyt set at 60. Tomorrow (or today as it is now) I will have a final try at the AR January round. I would like to see 340. Here’s hoping. _________________ MERLIN ARCHERY CLUB

No doubt there will be some changes in the set up before your entirely happy with it
