Just wondering if anyone shoots a KG1 and if so what is thier opinion of them?
I have the chance to buy one and it would be my first proper recurve.
Is there anything I should look for, common faults etc...?

Thanks....Ian

Dawn has one, but Bushy has his eyes upon it. Seem to have a nice reputation, from what I've read so far.

Ian

I have had my KG1 for about 4 years now, it was second hand of course but I love it.

It was 69" with 44# limbs I was happy with it until it came to 2 day shoots when I found I was getting tired half way through the second day, and not shooting so well.

I was lucky and found someone who had a set of 66" 40# limbs and were happy to swap with me, its just right for me now, I can shoot 2 days no problem.

I did try some 38# carbon limbs but I didn't like them, I preferred the glass laminate, if the limbs are carbon it will say on tham, if it doesn't say anything they will be glass laminate.

The KG1 is quite a basic bow compared with the newer recurves, there isn't really much to go wrong with them, just make sure the limbs are not twisted and the bolt fittings are nice and secure.

I must say a lot of people are very interested when they see mine, they are quite a sought after bow.

What weight is it ? have you tried it ?

If you have any more questions just ask, I will tell you if I can

I have a KG1 Marksman Which is close on 20years and that is the best bow I have ever owned for field, but it is not forgiving in for starter.I have other bows but still shoot my KG.

The KG1 is an absolutely fantastic bow they are so elegant and far ahead of there time they are fast, smooth to draw but as fred said not really that forgiving and yes I have had my eye on Cherries in fact I had one for a time but in a moment of madness decided to swap it IDIOT

I have 66" 40@28" KG1 in green - picked it up second hand last year having wanted one since I was young.

Lives up to its reputation - lovely to look at, and shoots sweet!

Not wanting to hijack the thread, but does anybody know what size the sight mounting screws are on the KG1?

Thanks Sam!

I am going to put an old pin sight on the KG1 and shoot (NFAS) Freestyle occasionally - while I usually shoot compound I do rather miss recurves.

The KG1 is a lovely bow what you have to remember though is that it is at least 18 years old so be aware of any limb damage or twisting Keith still makes Limbs for KG1's if you ask him nicely and in his range of bows you will find that he still makes a couple of bows very simular to the KG1 and these are very good value at under £400 for a complete new bow with carbon limbs.
