Bows now sporting my own strings!!!! yummy!!
As it has been widely publicised on AR, the kit car has been finished. We ran some pretty tight deadlines and as a result, the archery had to be put to one side. The waiting list for Vehicle standards tests was 3 weeks, so ours was 10 days notice. At the time, the car hadn’t turned a wheel, in fact the list of things to do spanned 2 pages. It was difficult but we were determined to keep the attention to detail high. The car was completed 3 days before the test. The MOT was arranged for 2 days before the big test and the inaugural run resulted in a broken speedometer and a very noisy differential.
The trip to the SVA met with a burnt out regulator and a fried battery. Fortunately the tester was very helpful and the car passed with flying colours.
Desperate attempts to find a new diff had us running all over the country in search of the holy grail in the form of a 3.38:1. the first trip was a 6 hour ordeal and the results were disappointing as the diff wasn’t the right one. The second one was a 10 hour ordeal, in which a garage clearout meant that a van had to be hired and the seller literally cleared out EVERYTHING he, his family and close friends had ever owned. It has taken 3 days to get rid of all the rubbish. Out of one vanful, all that was kept was a diff, 3 relays and a windscreen. At least it was the right diff.
The car was running but very roughly. I decided to book it into a tuning shop, TTS are recognised as one of the leaders in the tuning market in the UK. I rang them expecting to have a 3 week waiting list, only to find that they had a slot 3 days away. At this point, the car was a non runner, through a second broken regulator and the dodgy diff.
So a van was hired to do the 10 hour trip 2 days before and the regulator was resited and the diff replaced the day before. Thankfully the 70 mile trip was only eventful for all the right reasons. The return trip was even more eventful after the tuners released nearly 50% more power than it went in with. All that is required is the exhaust system sorting (too restrictive) and the clutch sorting to handle the extra power! The car is to be exhibited on a national magazine’s stand at a major kit and sports car show in November and is likely to feature in at least 2 magazine articles in the near future. _________________ MERLIN ARCHERY CLUB
