first off, thanks to all who have greeted me so warmly in my hubby's absence. i'm sure he'll have much more to say than i ever will, so entries may be few and far between on my part. well, maybe not...
I came to archery via a long and indirect route, and primarily through the instigation of my dear husband of twelve years. his children by a previous marriage are grown and in service, and i was prevented from having any rugrats due to the heart condition that eventually resulted in my having a heart transplant in '94. nevertheless, we are dedicated to each other, and we fought for years afterward to re-establish ourselves both physically and economically. we'll never be rich, but good things do happen now.
since I'd been combat pistol shooting even before i met steve, he knew i had an interest in weaponry in general, so it was almost natural to me when i was handed a bow and shown how to use it. I still have considerable weakness and osteoporosis-induced arthritis (one reason i don't punctuate much when typing) from the drugs i have to take, so i couldn't handle anything more than a child's compound at first. two years later, and i am able to pull steve's newest longbow (afb?), and i am far less of a couch-potato than i have been since the operation.
aside from some bsa air rifles for pest elimination (all our firearms had to be sold to pay off medical debts), i shoot my browning micro midas three at 30-lbs draw, 25-in. draw, with carbon force arrows and no sights or rests at the moment. having been addicted by steve's howard hill afb, i'm now saving for a 'cheetah' model with beautiful wood limbs and riser, hopefully for next year. fred's elb is nice, but i want something shorter since age is shrinking me, unfortunately from a vertical standpoint only.
as for current events, when 'bwana' hubby gets back, things will speed up a bit, i suspect. he seems to be reliving a part of his childhood at the moment, and he deserves some indulgence since i'm the reason he had to prematurely end his military career. he's never deliberately made me feel guilty over that, and has been totally dedicated to keeping me alive through much more than i care to discuss here. he says i'm the tough one, but that's just my irish stubbornness showing. we've each had our battles to fight, and i suppose that's what has gotten us through the hard times, that and the love. i'm glad the dog and cats are still here to hug, they are my children, but i'll be relieved when steve is back safely. the days are shorter, and seem so long. enough for now.

Ya left out some of the best parts, but it sounds impressive when you put it down in one spot like that. Yeesh, did we really go through all that? Wow.
