More Practise

Thursday. First thing I dropped the string off and covered the speed nocks with heat shrink, then did a quick bow check, set the sight level (it had been dropped) and we set off for Merlin to practise. The aim was to get the sights reset and shoot a short metric. My first shots confirmed that the sight gaps had closed up. In fact I had been shooting at 296fps and the increase had reduced the gaps by a yard on the original. Ruthy had gained 11 fps and was in the region of 5 yds faster; remarkable.
Although very gusty, enough to use the shelter, we decided to shoot the practise round. My arrows are badly affected by wind so expectations were not high. I do however expect 108 dozens as a minimum at 50 metres and escorepad was telling me that was all I was managing. I ended up with exactly 324 for the three dozen, I was going to have to go some at 30m to get anywhere near my PB of 678. Ruthy was very close behind, had it not been for a very poor second dozen, she would have beaten me for the 50. My 30 was poor. I realised that I was using the pin and not the ring on my sight half way through the second dozen but even then, I managed to always get two 9’s every end. In the end I shot a 670 and given the conditions I suppose it was reasonable. I can’t quite understand what the problem was at 30 but after reading the records I realised it was over a month since I last shot the round. Maybe the lack of practise had an effect. I’ll repeat the metric this week just to check myself but the equipment is fine. As for Ruthy.. she shot a 699, again not a PB but she did shoot her best ever 30m score in doing so. As always, plenty to be going on. We have the Totem 2 day shoot coming up in 2 weeks, so a chance to get back on the 3d’s and to see if I can get over this 2 day competition issue I am causing myself.
