Hi guy's

You know me here on AR as Una-vita but my real name is Ruth Lochlea
I have in recent years done quite well in archery
Click on the link to see some of my ahievements.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/nottingham/c...hery_world_champion_feature.shtml
I will be representing england to shoot in the World and European Championships being held in Switzerland in July 2007
It's a five day competition Shooting 4 different courses in woodland (ski slopes) with a day off in between.
We shoot at pictures of animals and 3D life like animals. there is usually 5 -6 in a group there are 28 targets each day and you shoot with your direct competition (it makes very interesting challenges) shooting against the worlds top archers!
It's very tough mentally and physically (normally you get a ski lift up the slopes.... we have to walk up them as thats where our targets are)

It is a self funding sport and opportunities like these don't come cheap
ie
Entry fee £100
Flight £150
Accom £300
car hire £120
Extra equipment etc.approx £700 e.g spare bow, arrows release aid all of which are essential when competing at my level.

I am currently in training to increase my fitness levels and also my mental levels i am practicing archery twice a week currently but that will increase as soon as the clocks alter.
I have the ability to achieve a top 3 position in the World and Eurpean championships but the desire to win the gold!

I do get a little help from local companies and it does all add up.
I have asked the local council and many many other authorities, oranisations etc but as usual they are only interested if it's football etc.

If anyone (individual or business etc.) would like to donate towards this exciting oppertunity please pm me and i will give you details of how you can do it.

I will keep you up to date with my progress and maybe even post the odd picture.

Thanking you all in advance
Ruthy

If you would like to sponsor una-vita please pm or email her from the forums, whilst AR can handle any donations we incur paypal charges and una-vita would not receive your full contribution - Liam

Here's a pm Ruthy sent me, I'm sure she wont mind me sharing it as I'm going to get it up on the website

una-vita wrote:
Hi Liam

Here is my profile...

The World and European championships will be held in Switzerland by the IFAA(international field archery association) in a place called Wildhuas it has a participant list of 940 all fighting for the titles!

There are various different categories from long bow to the all singing all dancing compound with sights and release aid!
I enter in the all singing all dancing class also known as freestyle unlimited
The bow I shoot is a Merlin XS Compund, UK manufactured by Merlin archery! The draw weight is set at 50lbs. My arrows are made form carbon and are capable of achieving a speed of 274feet per second. (roughly the length of a football pitch in a second)

The targets...
We shoot at either pictures of animals or life like 3D models of animals such as the mountain lion, deer, turkeys and crocodiles! all set out at unknown distances from 10yds to 70yds. There are scoring areas on each animal depending on whether you hit the kill area or not.

The competition...
It's over 5 days with one day off, 4 different courses of 28 targets each. usually or 5 in a group.
The courses will be held on the ski slopes of Wildhaus..! with varying terrain usually tough under foot. and very hot too!

About me...
My name is Ruth Lochlea I am 39 and I have been shooting competitively for 12 years winning many national competitions and international championships such as the World and Europeans 2003 Europeans 2005
UK 3D champion 2002, 2003, 2004
National champions 2003
Scottish champion 2002, 2003
I have not been out of the top 3 placings since 2002 and have set 3 national records
My other hobby is taking my Buell XB9S out for a ride. I passed my motorcycle test January 2006 after being fed up of being on the back of my turbo nutter boyfriend's bike! (He's very tame when not on a bike!), The Buell came shortly after.

Training...
I am currently in training for the event as it will be very mountainous and also hot as the competition is being held in July.
I am building my muscles and fitness up to give the extra advantage out on course and also practicing my shots twice a week currenty but to increase as soon as the clocks alter. i also use a computer programme that simulates archery with my actual set up so i can practice my distance judging on the pc.
I am dedicated to my sport and put a lot of effort into achieving my goal.
I realisitcally have the ability to achieve a place in the top 3 in this championships and the desire to win the gold!
The irony is that if I was this good in, say ladies golf or tennis, I would be famous and rich! But unfortunately it is a minority sport and i find myself saving up to buy arrows that cost £150 per dozen!

Any financial support anyone can offer, no matter how big or small, would be more than grateful.
I find it extremely humbling that there are people out there who are more than happy to donate £10 to help get me there!
It's a great feeling and I thank everyone from the bottom of my heart.

I am going to sort Ruthy out with a couple of AR Polo shirts to wear whilst competing which she has kindly volountered to wear aswell as a personal donation, I would love AR to be able to sponsor Ruthy but we do not have the funds right now, maybe next year .

I would urge anyone who can spare a tenner or even a fiver to help Ruthy out with this, if I didnt think this was a genuine plea for help it wouldnt be featured on AR, so if you can lend a hand please do so.

Can this be done through the website's PayPal account, or is there something else set up, just to be clear so I don't send it off to Kathmandu?

Think I should just put the record straight here

Ruthy (una-vita) is my daughter

And yes she is very good and yes she is very competitive and yes she has lots of medals, titles and trophy's, all very well deserved

I cant take any credit for her recent achievments, she has moved on since her days with a training bow then her first compound

But I can take credit for getting her started in archery in the first place

What Ruthy hasn't told is she started shooting right handed and won a lot of national competitions instinctive, then she decided to move on to using sights and dicovered she was left eye dominet changed to a left hand bow and still kept winning

Good luck Ruthy and thanks from me to all who help with her sponsorship

BTW Liam her first archery experiences were at LEFA

Deservedly proud Mum! Isn't it great when you watch a child go off and achieve? I could barely add 2+2, and both my boys are math whizzes and technicians in service. Don't ask me to explain it, I just enjoy their success. Rock on Ruthy and Dawn!

Whilst I can handle any sponsorship for Ruthy it would be best to pay them direct to Ruthy to avoid paying paypal fees twice.

Rather than publish Ruthy's email address on the forums if any one interested could pm una-vita for details.

Hope we haven't broken a cardinal rule of parenting: Never talk with parents about their kids within earshot of the children.
