|
|
Hi All,
Just wondering whether you use a glove or a tab for AFB.
I started with a tab but bought a glove after finishing my beginners course.
I have found a glove comfortable and easy to use.
Recently though, I was told that I should switch back to tab to help improve my accuracy.
Just wondered what your views are.
Thanks,
Les

Although I prefer to use a glove, I've heard it said many times that
a tab makes for better accuracy. I think it's up to the user and what
they're comfortable with.

I also use an glove, i have much more felling for the string with an glove as with an tab.
Tab fells also "unnatural" in my hand when i´m not shooting (know what i mean)?
Cheers

A tab.
I always used one when i shot compound and i made the mistake of getting a glove when i changed to AFB.
Before long i changed back to a tab because i could get a cleaner release with one.

I use a glove until it starts to rain heavy then I change to a tab.
This is obviously a comfort thing, a wet soggy glove does not feel at all nice.

Hi All,
Thanks for your replies.
I have just got a new AFB and have also changed to woodies from ally.
Think I will stick for the glove for a time, until I get used to the new bow and arrows - then switch back to tab to see how it goes.
That's what we've found great about Archery since taking up the sport. It's fun to try different bows, arrows and shooting styles etc.
Thanks again all,
Les

While reading "The Shooting Glove" section of Horace A. Ford's book, 'Archery -
Its Theory And Practice', I was/am surprised to find that he apparently liked
a good fitting glove, though he did feel that individual finger stalls that were
made to his liking were acceptable to him.
I'm a bit surprised that at a quick glance through his book he does not talk
about the 'Tab' unless I just missed it? His book is of the 1856 edition, and
at that time he was well known as England's greatest archer for winning so many
'Champion Medals' back to back (1849, 50, 51, 52, 53, 54, 55)...
Someday I may have to give the tab a try as I've only ever used the glove, so
I can not really make any conclussions until I do some testing.

I've been experimenting with various gloves & tabs. For longbow I'm using glove, for recurve a tab.
My preferred glove is the Martin Deerskin, though I have others and quite like the Richard Head glove.
My preferred tab is the Cavalier elite (after training with some very basic tabs I went to a shop to try various makes). Had to widen the spacer for my fingers. When I've occasionally used it for longbow I've removed the platform.
In my limited experience, modern tabs seem to be designed to produce a consistant under-the-chin anchor. Gloves seems more comfortable for cheek/ear anchors.
Probably doesn't matter as long as your anchor is dependable and the bowstring slips off your chosen leather nicely.
Regards
Andy

I shoot NFAS barebow with a Neet shooting glove, I shoot with 3 fingers under the arrow in this style and find the glove is comfortable and works for me.
I occasionally shoot NFAS AFB using med loose, for this I prefer the Wilson tab, a difference between the tab and glove also helps me remember to change my finger position for the different styles.

I use a glove at the moment with my AFB, it gives me a better feel for the string.
Tabs are good gloves are good, it's all down to what feels right for you, i have used tabs over the years but they always give me a smack on the hooter as i shoot split finger and have a wonkey nose.

Since posting the above, my wife hurt her finger at work and has been using my glove over a plaster. I have gone back to using a tab and have got on quite well with it.
I scored a personal best at an open shoot last Sunday, which I was well happy with.
Guess I will stick to the tab now and hope to continue the improvement this Sunday !

Hi Sid,
It's one that we got from Quicks.
Not sure of make but it's leather - has a velcro strip that goes around the middle finger.
