Santa very kindly brought me a Clicker for Xmas and I decided to fit it to my bow last weekend.
All I can say is Ouch!!!

One of the guys at the club helped me set it up and all seemed to be going ok to begin with though my accuracy suffered a lot as I tried to get used to the new style of shooting.

Still cant get used to releasing when I hear the click and also have a tendancy to push the bow forward to get the click rather than pulling the string back to the correct brace point.
All things that I can work on.

What is going to take some sorting is the very sore nipples!  Obviously I am doing something wrong but that damn string must have caught my chest at least half a dozen times
Even worse was the total lack of sympathy from the girlfriend when i told her what happened, tbh I think the rolling on the floor laughing was a bit excessive!

I think whats happening is that I am being forced to draw back to a consistent length so am working the shoulder muscles more...this makes me tired so i am leaning back into the shot, if that makes any sense?

If any of my fellow beginners out there are thinking of fitting one of these then I would say be prepared for some pain if you dont get it right!

A chest guard is always a good idea the string pushing into your breast in the same place can over time make a hard patch of skin, this can deceive a mamogram into thinking it is a cancerous growth. Not to mention the protection for nipple tweaks, and less chance of clothing affecting the release of the string.

As to your clicker problems, to be catching your nipple it sounds like you are pushing your bow arm's shoulder forward to extend your draw.

What ever you are doing it sounds like you are introducing bad habits trying to work to the clicker. I sugest cation here.

I know when I started using a clicker I noticed that some draws easily went past the clicker and others I really had to struggle with. This was good as it highlighted an inconsistance I had in my drawing technique. Rather than risk bad form, I decided to move the clicker position slightly out, and then use it slightly differently. Rather than shoot on the clicker, I used it to monitor my draw. If my draw easily passed the clicker I aimed and shot. If I struggled to pass the clicker, I let the bow down and drew again. This soon got me used to listening for the clicker and improved my draw. Then I re-adjusted the clicker and found it much easier to use the clicker as intended.

I think one of the bad habits I have is that I am shooting no matter how it "feels".
Sometimes I draw the bow and all seems ok, I get the click easily and when I release the arrow go's as expected.
Other times i draw and struggle to get the click but rather than bringing the bow back down I try to correct by shifting position etc and thats when I am having the problems.

I think i get to caught up in the moment and am also too aware of other people waiting there turn to shoot so I dont take the time that I need to correct myself

That's novel, I am sure I could get the numbers of a few clubs that would pay you to work for them with that trick

What clicker do you have? I had a riser mounted clicker in the old recurve days and never got on with it, I moved to a Cavalier Magnetic Sight Extension Clicker that fiited to the sight arm about 1,1/4" in front of the riser, sorted all the problems and I was able to shoot the 'click' everytime, certainly sorted a few of my faults out and I never had a sore nipple

I have the riser mounted one (beiter?) didnt know there were any other kinds that could be used with a recurve.
Will have to have a look at the other options

I have never used a clicker so can't offer any advice other than if you are hitting your chest it sounds like its the way your drawing your bow, try to get someone to watch you and see if they can spot the problem

Other than that I have seen archers trying to get used to using a clicker, very successfully strip the fletchings off their arrows when they forget to wait for the click

Sorry shouldn't laugh but it is very funny
