As an archer of 30yrs so would people pay to watch archery .My own thoughts are as a spectator sport about as interesting as watching paint dry.

Heh, I watch it whenever I can, but I'm an enthusiast. Olympic firearm shooting is ungodly boring as well, but both sports are fun when the Biathlon events are televised. Golf is a perfect example of how an inherently stupefying sport can be enhanced by the media, but the effort has to be made first. Archery needs both money and jazz to get on that level.

Fred - thanks for your honesty! We're trying to make the World Cup in Dover more of an event rather than just an archery competition. There will be fringe activities including a living history group, archery stall holders, have-a-go areas etc. We're hoping that the 2 for 1 offers will encourage archers and non-archers to attend the event.

Will do Dawn. I must admit that archery isn't my sport at all but having been out to the World Cup in Varese, Italy, last month i can say that the finals can actually get quite exciting!
We're also a Derbyshire company so we're not too far from you Dawn!

Look mate I hope your event make pots of money and encourages load of new converts But as I and segolden said until we jazz it up it will be still as a exciting as paint dry it is money and personalities that makes a sport. But I do not want to go down that road with our sport.I ENJOY my SUNDAYS banter meet people and shoot my bow in the woods

Now you have me puzzled
You say Archery is not your sport but you are involved in this World Cup event
Its in Dover and your in Derbyshire
The plot thickens
The World Cup is Target Archery, I am a Field Archer, Generally Target Archers shoot in fields
Field Archers shoot in woods

I'm just about getting my head around all the archery disciplines now!
We're an event management company based near Matlock (Sportworks UK - www.sportworksuk.com) and we're working with GNAS and a number of other partners and funders to put this event on.
Should be a great event - we're all really looking forward to it!

I did a search through Google to see where i could post information about tickets for the World Cup and found you through there. I think it might have been through the Clickers site.

HOW much is your company expected to make out of this event and how much is your company going to charge to promate the event
A FIELD ARCHER WHO IS P****D OFF WITH PEOPLE MAKING MONEY FROM AN AMATEUR SPORT We put of NATIONAL CHAMPS AND 3D and go out to the woods every Sunday for THE LOVE OF THE SPORT and a few like minded people who give time money their own so we can shoot.

Well I hope all goes well with the event and if it wasnt so far away from me I would actually go and see it at that price, I agree it may not be the most exciting day out but I would appreciate the skill and dedication top class archers have.
If anything Fred Target archery is more marketable than field due to the fact it happens on the same bit of field at the same time, I cant see anyone bothering to televise field archery from a muddy dark dingy wood, nor can I see it becoming an olympic event, so I think field archery is safe and will remain amateur for a long time.

Just as an aside, you can see how interested the company is in Archery, they have not posted in how long ? because there is no money it...... pity because the next event they run could have a better attendance by some "good will Posting" but we can all see what they think if there is not a potential dollar to be made
