A little of both, but I would add in "criminal" as well. Bad enough that this has occurred with adults, but the trend is much worse in children and teens, where the side effects and withdrawal symptoms are horrendous. Makes you wonder just what the motivations are with the people promoting the use of such drugs.

Definitely one factor, that. Also just plain laziness on the part of some doctors, who want a simple answer to a problem-patient. Then, there's the experimentation aspect, where some physicians are trying drugs simply to see how they work. And there's the old "Take it and shut up, I'm the doctor!", which is another problem. Ran into all those and more during Kathy's multiple stints in hospital. Unfortunately, it's very easy for patients and their families, desperate for answers, to be taken advantage of.

Just how low would your self esteem be if your company was so bad your budgie committed suicide?!?

Or if, when trying to ween it off the drugs, it went psycho and tried to rip your eyeballs out? A bit ironic.
