Which way to go with beginner's courseAfter a bit of local research, I can see two options for getting on a beginner's course:
1) wait for my local archery club to run a course
2) go on Merlin Archery's intensive beginner's course
Any opinions? Pros and cons?
BTW my interest is in shooting NFAS barebow (maybe longbow eventually). I'm not interested in target shooting.

Go with the latter then you can join your local club ASAP

I'm probably quite biased here but Merlin do offer an excellent service and the coaching doesn't just stop at the intensive course.. You'll still have to get an NFAS coach to sign you off to gain full membership and the chance to enter open shoots but the certificate will go a long way towards it.
There are a number of clubs in the Staffordshire area depending on where you are.

Hi Paul
Did your local club give you any indication of how long it will for their course?
Are there any other clubs near enough to you that are running courses?

No problem using Merlin's course but as Ratfighter says you will to be signed off before you can enter any NFAS open shoots.

I'd have to agree with MJ and Ratty, get on the course at Merlin if local clubs can not offer you anything soon
