What's your plans\goals for 2008?Just wanted to know what plans\goals people have set themselve for 2008, your more likely to acheive them if you write them down and set target dates.
Seems like 2008 will be quite a year for me, full of interesting challenges.......
I quit my job this week and will be moving from cold Yorkshire to even colder Estonia in May, starting off with a full time language course at Tallinn University, will complete building the interior of our new house which is nicely located within our own private 28 field\ 3D courses.
I also have plans on setting up my own company and hope to get some prototypes ready for July but maybe I'm taking on a little too much to get it done within the timescales I've set for myself .
I'm booked into WFAC in Namibia and in March\April will be taking 6 weeks off to prepare and shoot this competition, also booked into EBHC08, with a little hard work I hope to do well in both these competitions. I hope to be able to return for the Sept NFAS champs but really depends on how busy I am.
It's really about making some life changes, wanted to do a job with less stress and focus on my Archery a lot more

Wow doen't sound like you will have much time to get board Zetabow Looks like we may have a busy year ahead. We are putting our house up for sale next week, can't make any firm plans until its sold, but we hope to buy a motorhome and travel France. We fully intend to keep up the archery whenever we can, we already know of a couple of clubs over there, but we are not intending to leave this area for good as we have lots of family and friends here. Would like to think we can come back and shoot the 3D's and nationals, also pull in a few open shoots. We will just have to wait and see how the house sale goes then we can look into making plans

Wow, everybody's up and moving, it seems. Hope everything goes well for you people, as I can't even think of the concept of packing again without tearing up. I've still got stuff in boxes from the last move five years ago!
I'm looking toward a new longbow this year, hopefully by Fall. Steve has me hooked on his Howard Hill now, but it's just a bit too heavy for my extended use, so I'm planning on my own. I'm also hoping we can enter the Senior Games next winter, since it's too late for that this February and Steve's injury is just starting to heal. They have a nice archery division for both trad and compound, and we'll need the time to prepare.
The brush around our property has grown a lot, so things are getting where we should be able to put in some new target butts in the summer. Steve wants animal targets, don't know if we can afford them, but a few cloth picture-targets on bales partially hidden by the mesquite and thorns should work well enough. He's not picky, thank heavens. I keep hearing hints about another hunt this Fall, though, think he must be reliving his childhood. Still, if the economy goes south as seems likely, we may have to get used to a little venison.
Best wishes to all for the new year!

Well 2008..... well i want to getting good results for my college (I have got a conditional placement) so that just means study, study, study, study.
But i also want to participate in Archery Competitions. That requires alot of practice, which i hope will happen after easter when the Hall in Laleham is finished.

I can assure you the Ratcave is staying exactly where it is, unless I can get a move to the deepest recesses of Scotland, where we might be tempted.
Can't wait for Dawn to locate our holiday home in France

I have a few plans and goals, but half about finishing the house off we have just moved into (only 10 minutes from where we were) I have the outside to blueboard and then render, as well as new facia and guttering...archery wise I am aiming at a top 5 placement in our Nations at 3D, ABA and IFAA....

More archery than last year - not difficult!
We have no plans/intention to move just yet. No 1 son in his first year at University in Leeds and LilyWizz studying for GCSE's. Besides, I work for myself from home and my main focus in business is for now Sweden/Germany...
Just planning the years holidays.
Three walking/drinking weekends with the boys in Cumbria February, March and October.
Somewhere warm for a week in April for myself and Mrs OWB.
Probably Barcelona (a change from a pool/beach holiday) in the summer for a family break.
Plus the usual monthly trips to Stockholm/Hamburg unless I can persuade my business chums to come here to the UK once in a while!
Oh, and as many gigs as we can squeeze in during the year (mostly Rock City/Rescue Rooms in Nottingham).

We must resurrect this post, this time next year and compare!
After much consideration my goals are these.
1/ Stick with the same bows all year (after I have bought them)
2/ Top 5 in 3d's NFAS nationals and Scottish champs
3/ Top 12 in European champs
4/ retain Team awards we won last year
4/ Top 20 in FITA rankings
5/ Be a little less Ratty

I've set myself so many goals this year I dont even know where to begin.
The big ones are....
1/ Find a new House (I rent so its not easy) Main cirteria being a large garden so i can pratice archery and a spare room to fill up with pc's and other nerdy stuff
2/ To shoot 36 arrows and score over 300 (dont laugh)
3/ Get my girlfriend addicted to archery so she wont moan when I spend all my free time shooting.
4/ Holiday in Cuba
5/ Catalogue and sort the 1000+ books I have cluttering up the house
6/ Loose another 2 stone in weight and finally kick the smoking

My personal goals for this year are.
1) improve mental and physical condition
2) practice hard
3) improve consistancy
4) shoot more regular
5) maintain top 10 rankings in all NFAS nationals
6) BEAT MY MASTER (that might take a few more years yet but always a goal)

I like those goals Bushy , one question how are you going to quantify the "improve consistancy" so you can see if you are?
The reason I ask is that my goals were somewhat quantifiable (sp) but do we really know if we can or have achieved our goals? we need something to measure our success by so I am going away to rethink my goals and might come back with something that I know is possible cause I can measure the success or non achievement ( won't say failure cause I know I can achieve them maybe some will need more work )
What do you recon Bushy am I being somewhat perdantict here?

Now I hope u boys are behaving in here in a bid to quantify improving my consistency I seem to be able one day to beat anyone in front of me but then worry when I am in front what they are doing behind me one of the reasons i need to improve mental aspects, by improving things not only with my shooting bit around my lie in general I am hoping that my consistency will improve so that shoot to a higher level more often
|
zetabow
|
Bushy shooting is 85% mental and 25% physical
In 2001 had a real bad case of Target Panic and had to take a good look at myself and the reasons why I had target panic, I felt the whole thing was caused by self pressure in pushing the limits of my shooting and expectations that I needed to win.
I switched my focus from scores and medal positions to good basic shooting form and shot execution. I knew in my mind that if I did this the scores would take care of themselves, by letting go like this really allowed me to reach my full potential, I'm a much better shot for it and shooting is so much more enjoyable.
Last year at the 3Ds I was shooting with Chris Pleasents and he said he had never seen anyone shoot an AFB with such good form, a real compliment from a class archer like him and he's such a perfectionist himself.

My first goal for this year is to improve my health. I want to be around to keep my wife company and take care of her. Hope that will also keep me shooting into the coming years. I already have major low back injuries and with the years adding up I'd starting to have shoulder problems. (getting old is not for wimps - lol)
Archery specific goals are to continue working my way out of the 6 month slump I was in last year by improving the shot sequence, execution and follow through. One new thing I'm trying is more positive thinking. The whole "mental" side of archery is proving interesting.
Hope by the end of the year to be shooting consistent 425-450 scores on the 28 target Field & Hunter rounds. Hope to get to 725+ on a FITA 900 and stay above 500 for FITA Indoor. All this shooting Barebow Recurve.

My goal is to shoot my bow every day. I also have a goal to attend my first archery contest. There is a club about 3 hours drive from my house. I thought I would give that a go and see if competition is something I've got the mettle for.
I'd like to meet some more folks that shoot longbows, camaraderie and all that stuff, you know.

IMHO it's what it's all about. And when you cant shoot/compete/get to a club you can always come to AR to help relieve the pain of not having a bow in your hand.

although my initial idea was to hit top 10 in the 3 championships scottish, 3d's and nationals i had a rather poor scottish so I am practicing hard for the 3d's on the areas that I was struggling although the weather was not to help but we cant do anything about that think im doing the 3d's then reverting back to my bent stick for the rest of the year though

My goal was to shoot everyday, I have been shooting 4-6 days a week.
My fingers still feel a bit puffy from the last few days of shooting. I think I might need a day off?
The club nearby is having an outdoor field shoot this weekend. I might give it a go if I can find enough good arrows to shoot.

My plans lay in a tattered heap on the floor steve, but that said I am at least back shooting again, so the new goals have become:
a) To get the elbow back to normal
b) to regain my previous form
c) shoot a good number of "away" shoots
Most are on track, the elbow is still making progress and I can shoot a full indoor round(IFAA) with only minor discomfort and no elbow or muscle brace. My form is sorta there but after 3 months of not shooting you do tend to have to reinforce your shot sequence regularly
Have quite a few planned and if I get to 50% of them will be wonderful , but I am hoping for fantastic

Know how you feel mate, after having upper\lower Jaw rebuilt during 2004-2006 and not being able to shoot for several months after each operation it's taken till sping 2007 to feel like my form was on the way back.

Seeing as this one has been resurrected, how are people doing against their goals
So far I have correctly learnt to count past four
Seem to be sticking with the same bows
Failed miserably at the 3d's, failed slightly at the Scottish and achieved top 5 in the EFAA Bowhunters
A top 20 FITA ranking appears totally impossible right now
Still on course for the team titles (assuming we can muster a team)
and I think I'm not doing too well with the rattiness

OK Ratfighter, I know that my post hasn't been up long, but here's the progress so far.
1) Done that one (But you already knew that)
2) I'll tell you in a couple of weeks
3) Done that now, just waiting for confirmation
4) Shot PBs in Mixed, Double Mixed, Marked and Combination Round, still need to get Unmarked and National Animal
5) I'm half way there with 2 of the 4 MB scores in the bag
6) Almost there on this one, one of my archers has 1st class and is now going for Bowman, the other has 3 of the 4 GMB scores needed
So all on target so far, and to add to it I got a British Record last weekend at Northampton for the 2 day Mixed round. (I know I've said that elsewhere, but I'm more than a bit chuffed about it!

Well, here's the update
1) Done (But you knew that anyway
2) Done
3) Done, but waiting for confirmation (I'm not counting the 28 target FITA as I don't know if they are shot anywhere) I'm also waiting for confirmation on a new National Record.
4) Done, except for National Animal which I haven't shot yet this year.
5) Done, awaiting confirmation
6) Done, GMB achieved by one archer, and 1st class by the other.
Looks like I need some more goals!

Mine is to:
1. Get good with the archery and find a bow that suits me.
2. Finally sort out the work situation and find out what team I'll be moved to.
3. Get the roof sorted this year...and new windows for the back of the house...and possibly a new car (but we'll have to see on the last bit).
4. Stay healthy and be less stressed out.
