The Scottish ChampsFor those brave archers out there daring the brisk Scottish weather mid march
I have just received an email from Loch Ken Holiday Park. I sent them an eamil regarding booking a camping pitch for the weekend only to find out that they have increased the camping pitch by £4 per night - it now costs £16 per night with electric hook up and £13 without electric it seems a little expensive as there are only basic facilities on site and you have to pay 50 pence for a shower!
However i have found another one further up Loch Ken called Ken Bridge Hotel and they also offer caravan and camping pitches I have just booked myself and Ratty in for the weekend and it's only £13.50 per night with electric hook up and the showers are included also there is a bar and restaurant on site in the hotel with log burning fires so all in all it seems a better deal
Website here about the camping side of things. Although the prices are out of date so you will need to contact them for that (there isn't a great increase in prices)
http://www.caravancampingsites.co...iesandgalloway/kenbridgehotel.htm
and here is about the hotel side
http://www.kenbridgehotel.co.uk/index.htm
I know a few other folk that stayed on there last year and said how much nicer it was so it looks like a good choice to me

And they advertise fresh crayfish, straight from the river to the frying pan and onto the plate in a few minutes.
Could be a hot contender for replacing Haggis and steak on the Saturday night in Crossmichael!

It does seem a bit steep for camping. I'm booked in to the same B&B in Castle Douglas as I have for the last two years, for not much more, £22 including breakfast.

Soft maybe, but I'll be very warm, more importantly, walking distance from the pub. I'll start my camping off in Essex in April.

I'm tempted to come and watch (just for the crayfish!)...

Scottish crawdads, who'd a thunk it. Don't eat the things anymore, but at least we now know a good place to feed.

B&Bs usually get booked for the next year by the current boarders. You may have to look further afield. I had to stay in Dumfries for the first couple of years.

Unfortunately due to a change in circumstances I am unable to attend scottish so going to have to hold fire until 3d's

My wife and I are going to travel down to check this out. We are newish NFAS members and not eligible to shoot. Trying to sort out camping etc.. Will we need a parking permit or whatever to get near the course?
|
Ruthy
|
Yes you will need a permit to park, If you have a news letter the contact details will be in there, if you give them a call i'm sure they will send you one out

So who from here is going?? I feel a photo coming on

Brian, I'm sure if you arrived armed with a couple of pounds, you will be able to park. I have noticed in past years that some people have parked in the village and walked the short distance to the champs.

I'm really not sure about this as the parking ticket system is in place for a reason. However the Parton lot are very accomodating and I am sure that a call or mail to them will produce a result.

Thanks folks, I'll check it out. If things get too complicated we will stay in the nearest Hilton and get transport in the complimentary limo

I'm sure you'll be there some how, hope to meet you at some point.
PS - meeting Malcy for a meal in the Imperial Hotel at around 7 pm on Friday, maybe you can make it there as well.

I think I'm at the Ken Bridge campsite...although now I'll have to check because I can't actually remember, not at all like me!!!
...and I'm not sure about the Limo either, depends what it needs to fix the exhaust back on after I tried jumping out of Kelso yesterday

In 2006, and average of 17.5 would have got you first place.

Just thought you might like to see a few photos taken at this years Scotish Champs.
Pooka won a lovely trophy for 1st place in Jr Girl Barebow Class.
The rest of us will have to wait until the results come out.
The weekend was a dream weather wise apart from a chilly wind on the top side of A course.
The targets were well placed and appeared to be straight forward until you missed them for no apparent reason than clever placement using the beautiful terrain.
Hope these prompt you to go to next years champs Dawn.

never heard a bad word said all weekend, such a fantastic place to shoot.
Selwoc
please do, love to put faces to names, briefly met Ratfighter this weekend while queuing at the very top of a windy A course, but not enough time to stand and chat in the middle of a shoot, nice fellow, next time should be better.
Dawn
do you like the photo of that huge rock that looks like a silverback gorilla
i know you would like it in scotland but i think you have to have a camera packed before a bow, stunning countryside, red squirrels, woodpeckers and roebucks all seen on the course whilst shooting
Cannot wait until 2009 now

i thought u were on about the picture of me looking like a silver back gorilla lol never mind it was a fantastic weekend but unfortunately i was not up to the challenge and am not going next year and I seriously got to get some weight off looking at that

Hi richard,
Did that last year and vowed never again, after we found we couldn't cook breakfast until we cooked the bottle of cooking oil that had frozen in the night.
Damn that was a cold night.

Hin Cobarwolf & Pooka
It was good to meet up albeit too briefly on that frozen hillside. Had the shot not been as testing a prospect as it was I would have been more communicative. Hopefully the next time we meet up it will be waiting to shoot a 20yd javelina!!!
all the best
