The latest addition to the Ratcave!!!Here is a pic of my newly constructed string jig. Built at a fraction of the cost of those stateside jigs and suitably rat looking.
I have successfully tested it to 300lbs and it worked superbly.
In case anyone questions, I have to arrange a more permanent winch system as this was just a test run to see if I had built it well enough
Tomorrow, I'll chemically strip it and get it painted in a subtle shade of errr. Tell you what, lets have a poll.
I have some string material and my new Beiter winder, so I'll get down to some practise before launching "Rat Tails"

Well it just has to be ratty matt black, nothing else would do, maybe a flick of red in there somewhere though hey
Looking forward to seeing some 'rat tails' I know there are going to be a great piece of work

Ratty's Fisher Price String Making JigHow about some nice bright play school primary colours, archery is a game after all.
Joking aside, it looks pretty robust, you should be able to make tome good strings with it.

Sorry but I went for sunny yellow, I just know that when it gets put in a dark corner of the Ratcave for safe storage you wont be able to find it if its matt black

Paint it what you will, I'm guessing you converted a high-jack for that thing? Sure looks like what I've got in the back of my truck.

Hi Steve, nope not a single part came from a jack. In fact it nearly all came from the local fastener suppliers.
Looks like we are getting some yellow paint tomorrow

Pick up some black as well, a few stripes would make it look good hanging next to Tigger.

I think he should go for PINK so he's more in touch with his feminine side

Well I went Matt Black but in hindsite, I believe that your choice of yellow Ratty501 is more than suitable. I know when I make string that having a bright background colour to see what you are doing is vital to being able to see properly when you are finishing your serving or whatever....so I wanna change to yellow please.... thats now 3 Matt Balck and 5 yellow

Thanks for the votes guys. And thanks for the tip Steve, being a novice, that is something I would no doubt have realised when it was too late.
So I'm off to B&Q for some yellow paint this morning.

Thanks Bushy, I adapted a number of home grown American designs into something I could make.
The bits are now a resplendent Yellow and the winch properly set up.
Now I just have to learn to use it.

Ahh - good old Unistrut! My string jig is made the same way - dug out of the skip at work!
Colour has to be ratty red - red oxide primer.
