Taking advice

A while ago, I read the best piece of advice that a beginner could have and that was to join a club. Well, we did last month and once again, it proved very useful. Thank you to whoever posted it! You probably saved me a lot of money in potential recurve bow buying mistakes!

My other half shooting with his proaccent bow has recently been told to acquire and fit a pressure button as well as a new arrow rest. He chose the W&W magnetic bow arrow rest which looked incredibly flimsy to me and a Shibunya DX button. This was all done after consultatation with our chief club coach and gold mine of useful archery knowledge (who has been shooting for more years than I've been drawing breath and has a LOT of gear). The other half had been using a very basic Hoyt rest for a while and started to find it was not enough!

Having got the gear, he brought the bow, button and rest over to our coach to fit. The man did all that and fitted and tuned the button. This whole process is somewhat fascinating to watch and something I might be able to do in about twenty years (if I pay enough attention). After doing something called a 'walkback', taking the archer 5 yards at a time away from the target to tune the button, the whole set up was ready for use. The other half states that the magnetic arrow rest is VERY unforgiving and I won't fit one yet as I would probably tear my hair out trying to shoot with it. I put a Hoyt arrow rest on my bow after I got fed up pinching the arrow off the rest all the while.

Our chief coach has been mentoring two other members of the club and made it clear to both of us that things need to 'settle' down (technique and such like) before he'll consider mentoring us. I'm VERY flattered that he's even stated he would consider it. He's a bit blunt and his coaching style is not to everyone's taste, I daresay, but if he said DO something in a particular way, I wouldn't hesitate to take the advice. I'm trying to work up the courage to ask him to assist me finding my new bow (something I want to do in the next few weeks) and arranging a date and time with which to do it (work and all that).
