String making.

Hi

Can anyone recommend some good resources for string making please??

I've made a jig and have the materials.  I have found one site that show how it is done, but it is quite simplistic.  Going to have a go tomorrow.

Thanks.

Kevin.

Obviously there are differing requirements for compound, recurve and traditional strings. It depends largely on what kind of strings you intend to make. I started making my own compound strings a couple of months back and there were many failures along the way, whilst I tried to interpret web based instruction. However I can now make a consistent, no peep twist string and wonder what all the fuss was about
The biggest breakthrough came from the purchase of an instructional DVD. There are DVD's available for recurve strings from Merlin (other shops also provide this service) but I had to send to the States for the compound one.

One important thing I think is using good quality equipment and being very thorough and precise in the string construction.

Good luck, I'm sure you'll end up trying to find an excuse to make a new string, it is certainly addictive
