Shops/companies who have been helpful.Over the last couple of months, we have been finding archery shops who have had good stock and decent advice. Here's our list of those who are alright to deal with and won't rip you off (hopefully).
1. Quicks - good for both mail order or internet buying and very good advice. The staff in Sapcote were brilliant when I bought my first bow and supplied kit and arrows without spending too much or buying unecessary amounts of kit to start with. Unfortunately or fortunately (depending on my salary) nearly all of their shops are located a good distance away and a bit too far to make regular visits. Going to Sapcote was a special effort (we were on our way from Derbyshire to Stratford at the time), but worth it for the time taken to find a decent bow.
2. Wales Archery Specialists- Located in an old, converted barn and easy to miss, this place is like an Aladdins Cave for archers! Loads of stuff for every kind of archer, be it longbow, AFB, Recurve or the compound. Lots of arrows in stock and an short archery range to have a go when buying new gear (an essential in all cases). The staff are VERY helpful.
3. Blackrock Archery - Located in Llantrisant, good for compound archery more than anything else but he stocks the latest recurve risers and some beginners recurve bows and limbs. Good for getting arrows made up locally without going miles to collect them and also good for sundries like spare nocks, braces, tabs and glue. The bloke who runs it is well-known in the Wales Archery scene and knows a lot of local clubs and can recommend places for beginners. Very useful when I buy storage boxes or advising on gear.
Ireland traditional archery supplier - (Website). Has an incredible range of the weird and the wonderful. Lots of knives for all sorts of purposes and stuff for traditional archery.
