Longbow technique question

I have quite a bit of experience as a recurve archer (4 years) but have recently been lured over to the bent stick as, due to an old Rugby shoulder injury, I struggle to support the weight of a full recurve set up on my bow arm. I have really enjoyed the change and love the feel of the longbow. I'm just conscious that I am trying to fit my recurve technique onto the longbow.

In order to correct my technique could anyone point me to a website or book where I can study good longbow technique?

Thanks.
Dawn

Hi loz2286

I can't help you much as I don't shoot longbow but if you click the link to Bickerstaffe Bows there may be some useful information on their site

Other than that I will leave it for our longbowmen on here to help you out

It doesn't seem that long ago when I made the transition from recurve to longbow.  I too attempted to apply my recurve form and technique to my longbow shooting.  In fact I still do.  I find that there are many parallels between the two.  There might be some modifications due to the grip on your longbow and such, but I find I shoot them very much the same.

The longbow is less forgiving and seems to tell me that I've done something wrong typically it is displayed with an errant arrow.

I found master of the barebow II quite interesting since it featured a few longbow archers and a couple recurve shooters.  It's a bit long but there is plenty to observe and even a few pearls of wisdom.
