I'm in love...

...the curves, the sleek lines, the comfort, that beautiful red colour

yep, I want a Hoyt Nexus. Just look at this baby...

It'll be about a year (or so) before I can save up for one though

For those that have one - I envy you
Malcy

I tried one and didn't like it.   I have a Helix and just wanted to compare the two.  I thought it would be like the old Matrix but it's not even close.
Bushy

yet one of the lads who i shoot against in barebow uses a nexus with g3 limbs and he really rates it ???
Ratfighter

I think there is a great similarity between the Nexus and the Merlin Elite, which is @ 20% cheaper, which on projection would mean only saving to November this year and therefore giving you all winter indoors to get used to it!
Chedawan

Again, I shot one, and never got on with it!  It's just personal preference really, so please make sure you try it  (and others) before you buy.  I had my heart set on a KG Kudos, tried it, and ended up buying my Winact, works for me a lot better!  Saved a hundred pounds too, but the primary concern was that the Kudos just didn't sit right for me.

After my problems with my Win&Bin riser at the Scottish Champs, I took a drive to Merlin on Wednesday. After trying both the Nexus and Elite, I left the shop with an Elite.
Ratfighter

Nice one Shel,
Good to meet up with you in Scotland by the way.
I hope you get on well with the Elite

Looks very nice too in the bow pics section!
What went wrong with the Win&Win? (if you don't mind me asking?) I shoot a Winact, and wonder if there's anything I should be looking out for?  Although it's given me fine service thus far in its life.  I was actually considering eventually buying a second one to set up purely for field.

I have always struggled to get limbs perfectly aligned on the riser, I have tried three different sets that I know line up OK on other risers. The top limb adjuster has to be fully wound over to one side to get anywhere close to having the string run down the centre, the adjustment is there to correct minor errors with limbs, not to correct misaligned risers. With the limb pockets also being slightly torsionally  out of line with each other and the longrod bushing pushing the longrod out about 1" to the left, it made it very difficult to set the bow up. Ben at Merlin is trying to justify a replacement from the distributors.

I shouldn't think it was any more than an isolated problem with my riser, not a general problem with Innos.

A big plus for the Merlin is that it is so well engineered, that it took no time at all to align every thing.
Chedawan

Sounds like a pain.  never experienced anything like that on mine, but now you mention it, it has been noted in two archery shops that my riser is milled in such a way as the pockets add approx. 4 Lbs to whatever limbs I put in (independently of the limb weight adjustment cam thingymabobs).  Never caused me any problems, had it checked and it distributes this evenly so it doesn't put any unusual extra pressure on the limbs, but perhaps Win&Win isn't the way to go for my second riser.  Hmm.

Nice selwoc, if I shot recurve I think Merlin would be my choice, value for money and a great product
NoSights

One of our clubmembers who shoots in the Dutch Team got a Helix and Nexus to test.....he didn't like the grips either.......He's still shooting his Matrix.

So try before you buy !!!!!!

Grips can be changed though, First thing I do when I get a new riser, is change plastic grips for wooden ones, and then work on shaping the grip to suit me.
wintellect

I like wooden grips too! If I ever get a Hoyt riser, I'll certainly be buying one of the wooden grips for it!

I'm back - and thanks to a bonus at work I am happy to report I got my Hoyt Nexus

Yes, I did try other bows - but I love the feel of the Nexus. Here's a pic of my new baby (the wooden handle arrived after this pic was taken):

Chedawan

Very nice.  Glad you got what you wanted.  Now let me guess you're looking at different coloured tuner caps for the beiter set up to match... and of course a black and red string!

Adam - Plays Devil's Advocate... a lot
wintellect

Funny you mention the string - I've ordered a black string with red centre/end servings :p
Chedawan

Excellent work!
BTS

Oooh that looks gorgeous  Look at the stabilizers too.
Hope you do well with it.
Chedawan

Time to get back in to the target league... catch up month and everything
wintellect

Had a go at my own centre-serving and Beiter Nocking Point. I think, for a first ever attempt, it went ok. What do you think?

Chedawan

Looks good mate.  Did you manage to get the nocking point right the first time?  Took me ages to get a Beiter one right!
wintellect

Serving the Beiter nocking point was a bit of a pain - took me a while (and several attempts) to get it how I wanted. Fortunately that picture doesn't show the number of times I started, un-did, started, undid, etc the serving of the Beiter nocking point

Seems to be working well when shooting though
Mjollnir

Must be annoying when you discover you nock point is a bit high
