how about one of those blog things

In another forum, a bike one, they have one of those blog things, maybe it would be an idea to diarise your life this way on Archers Rest. Just a thought,
Dave

If this is of interest, I am sure the web site could accomodate that if Liam doesnt see it fitting on the forum and all agree ...
JimN

Presumably this is a per member blog. I agree, the website would be the way to go with this if Liam decided it'd be something he wants.

What is a 'blog think'
JimN

A fancy name for an online diary, taken from 'web log'. You can write about anything you like (and some people do; anything and everything  ) but probably more useful on AR if it concentrates on archery and related matters.

I started one on AIUK when I first started archery, tracking my experience from beginners course through to joining the club and moving up the target distances. One of the problems I found was you can't be truly honest as anyone from your club could be reading it.

Enjoy your time at the wood dont you jim

Thanks for the explination
Liam

Not a bad idea at all, and yes it would fit better on the website than here, if you could look into it Steve if you dont mind, if its relativly easy to accomplish I dont see why we cant give it a go. I can set a link from users profile to the blog once set up.

Well, ya'll can do whatever you like. These things either make a lot of posters happy, or make them angry. Seen some real nasty fights start, but that happens even on regular forums where there's a sense of restraint. Me, I stay off chat rooms and blogs of any kind.
Liam

Think I'm right in saying that anything submited would have to come through either me or Steve first, unless Steve has some fancy systems to use, so censorship would be taken care of.

Unfortunately the internet is the perfect place for these keyboard warriors to show how brave they are sitting at their computer. Me, I just take the view that you shouldn't post anything that you wouldn't say to someone's face, that seems to keep me out of trouble I'm a member on some American forums and when it kicks off there, it really gets stupid.

I think a manual pre-moderation would be unworkable if any proportion of the membership stars blogging. There should be some feature to filter swear words and the such-like (but don't go to any shoots in Cockermouth or Scunthorpe) but it should be OK to treat it the same as the forums. If somebody crosses the line then they get blogging (and possibly forum) privileges removed.
Liam

Agree 100% with the above, I think we should reserve the blogging privileges to 'AR Supporters' this way avoiding those who just turn up for a fight.
segolden

Now that's why I hang out here, common sense and gentlemanly conduct. Sounds like you got this handled, guys. ___thorpe? Not even going to ask. LOL
Liam

I've always had the attitude that the users choose what they want on here, afterall without users I'd be sat here yapping to myself all day, even if I dont like a particular idea but the membership does then it will get a fair go on the forum's or website.

Users input is extremly valuable to me at AR, and between us we generaly come up with the right ideas and how to best work them.

This is everyones place not just mine

As it should be. I'm the resident cynic and worrywart, destined to kvetch. This PC is just an overdone typewriter to me, don't know a bloody thing about it or programing.

I never reallsed that blogging was controversial. I used it when I was customising (well chopping bits off) my bike. I thought that people treading a similar path may avoid my pitfalls or use the info gained to their advantage. I thought a similar might be useful for people trying to improve on their skills, or again learn from my mistakes. I wasn't sure that posting on the forum "hey I found a short cut to Castle Bowmen" or "my rest keeps dropping off so I superglued it" would be of merit, whereas, if I diarised " Today my rest fell off so i superglued it, then found a lovely route to Castle, with Ducks walking down the road and thatched cottages etc" it would be more appropriate.

From those that have discussed blogging , it appears to me that those that actually answered seem to have been on some mighty funny forums with people that are equally wierd, if the blogs are like that. I would think that if blogging became available to the membership of AR then it would be used wisely and correctly.

That said maybe I am expecting to much from people now days, I think that Jim encapsualted the way a blog should be conducted

I like LIam, believe that the members drive in most cases what we present on the forum and website.

Better get of my soap box before I get knocked off
segolden

Weird? Readily admit it. Unfortunately, the REAL weirdos can come out of nowhere and turn a normal conversation into a flamefest. Others take a simple statement for a slight, and things slide downhill from there as feuds spin off in every direction. I'd not expect that kind of behavior here, but then I didn't expect it before, either. A well-managed site doesn't allow it to get beyond a certain point, and I don't see that being a problem with the people at AR. I'll go take my lithium now
Nick

HMM? dont think its something i would bother with, my lifes hardly exciting enough to remember from day to day without boring other people with it
Steve B

Try us out nick, might be a very good read
