Help, First compeition on SundayIts my first competition (Wakefield Indoor Portsmouth) outside of my club on Sunday, I am fairly nervous about it and am wondering if there is any basic advice for a newbie to competitions? Anything I should/shouldn't do that will annoy people?
Any help will be great

Portsmouth is good for the stamina, 5 dozen arrows .
As long as you stick to the main safety rules , not much else to do exept have fun and get all your arrows to tother end.
There should be officials there to guide you if you're not sure.Depending on how serious it is it may have timed ends.but all should be explained on the day.
The only problem i had once was the guy next to me was canting his bow too much and put his limb through my bow when i was at full draw.Bit scarey, but it was pointed out to him and all was cool.
Don't worry too much and have fun.

Hi sheep2580,
i remember my first competition and it was outside on the coldest of days, my only advice to you is to listen to what people have to say and say little, don't chit chat while someone is about to shoot and never be the first or last to do anything, but more importantly look around you and absorb the day for it will be gone far to quickly.
oh and if you can remember, take a camera and when appropriate take some photos, not forgetting to post them on here afterwards.
ENJOY, ENJOY, ENJOY

Dont be afraid to ask for help or advice. I was "paired" up with an experienced archer and she talked me through every step of the competition.
And dont worry about your score.

All the above advice is spot on.
Only thing I would add, is it is considered rude/disruptive to leave the shooting line if the archer either side of you is still shooting, as this may distract them.
Also don't thake any crap about you clothing being the wrong shade of green
As the others before me have said have fun, after all that is what archery is all about.

onewackybow made a good point DO NOT WORRY ABOUT YOUR SCORE IF YOU WANT SOMETHING TO AIM FOR TRY TO KEEP YOUR ARROWS ON THE BOSS.Just enjoy your first shoot listen to experianced archers 99% of them will be more then willing to helping you through.

Question: How long have you been shooting for?

For many, getting nervous at competitions is normal. I still do after 25years shooting.
At your first competition it can be the whole set up that brings on the nervousness. If you know anyone who has been to this event before, ask what it's like so you know what to expect organisation wise;and venue wise. Be prepared for masses of bows in the room and lines of targets. Know the routine of who shoots when(first or second detail etc.)
Have a spare arrow in your quiver, in case. And tape over the nock so you can't shoot 4 by accident.
Go to enjoy the event and the shooting. Go, expecting to be shooting with some nerves; no good pretending they will disappear when you get there.
When we get nervous, there is a tendency to forget part of our form. Usually it is a recently learnt part or one of the subtle parts. If you can be aware of this you can more easily turn things round, should you start shooting below your normal level.
Good shooting on the day and it would be good to hear how you got on.

i done my first comp a couple of weeks ago, i just went and introduced myself to the guys i was shooting with, and asked them to give a bit of guidence, they were all accomodating and helped me out no end, just enjoy it, thats the reason i done one after not shooting long, its like club shooting, just with different people

I have shot this today, it went well. I was with some really helpful people who told me where I should be at what point in time. I had great fun and will be entering as many competitions away from the club as I can.
Oh yeah, and I won my class too. Under 18 Boy Compound!
Big thank you to all the people who offered advice, it really helped!
