Not to put water on the fire here, but have their limb manufacturing process been fixed yet ? I do like the XV as a bow and I thought the XT was a tack driver as well, but I have no faith in the limbs as you would understand Liam

Aint nothing nicer than that new bow feeling Liam.

I believe improvements have been made, and yes I understand and indeed share your concerns

We were having a chat with Chris Jones last week about the new limbs. Merlin are very proactive when it comes to design and do take on board comments/ failures.
Chris believes the problem laid in two areas, the pocket and the area between where the limb bends and the pocket. They have addressed the limb pocket area with a new cnc machined cup which spreads the loads evenly. The limb failures have been addressed by taking material out in certain places thus moving the pivot point further up the limb, giving a better curve and reducing the stress in the area close to the end of the pocket. Further strengthening has also taken place. The whole process has been carefully considered by back tracking to times when the limbs weren't an issue and taking careful comparison. Chris is convinced that the new limb is the answer.
Stu369 has commented that since the introduction of the new cup washer, no failures have occurred and certainly the XV continues to fly off the shelves. The new colours are certainly spectacular.
I think most people on here are aware of my own issues during 2007. Since retiring my XS, I have drifted from brand to brand and none have given the total package that I find essential. Aside from the reliability, the XS ticked the boxes and is so far proving to be impossible to beat
It had genuine speed, 65% let off, a dream to keep in tune (after I changed the strings)
a postive stop, a good valley, and the grip is well located along the central axis, providing less opportunity to influence the shot and all topped a forgiving brace height.
The XV worked on the same ideals but the longer a2a should give a more stable platform, improvements made on the grip and a tidy up on the design (removing those gel stickers and using proper machined holes) U-V reckons I should give the XV a go, the new limbs and the longer a2a should solve the vibration and reliability issues, careful choice of arrows should still achieve the mid 290's at my draw length. So as usual she has a valid point.

I am really glad to hear your comments on the Limbs Dave, that was one failing that really got up my nose three failures for myself on the XT and my confidence in the bow was gone. I am sure that they will have fixed the issue and all will be well ....... I must also comment on the colours that Medrlin have introduced, they are stunning to say the least

They must be pretty loud, as somebody on another forum was saying that he got complained about because the color scheme of his bow was a distraction on the line. Some people must be envious.

Really! LOL!
Perhaps there awaits a small fortune to be made from 'Archer Blinders'... It works for horses...

Well here it is

Way to go mate, that looks so damn good and I just know that you are going to shoot so well with it too

I can assure everyone that we have absolutely no limb problems now - of course the odd one may pop up at sometime but nowhere near as much as some other companies limb problems!
I can assure you that we pride ourselves in the quality of the product and if anything can be improved it will be improved!
any problems are normally dealt with very quickly.

Stu, you are 100% correct on your comment on looking after limbs that needed replacement , I know I was looked after pretty well and I am halfway around the world from you guys...

Mjollnir

oooo very pretty
|
Onewackybow

Hmmmmm, nice... must resist, must resist...
|
Mjollnir

resisting is easy, I just have to think about Monsterbow's Dragon bow
|
Onewackybow
|
Indeed, indeed...
|
segolden

Just to add to your dilemma, I'm sure Todd could do up a Dragon like Liam's scheme (aren't I mean?).
Liam, if it weren't for Bowtech's Black Marble, I'd vote this one as color of the year, beautiful!
|
Mjollnir
|
As I said, it is not a dilema, Monsterbow's Dragon bow, is going to be my next toy, merely the logistics to work out

Dawn

Very nice Liam very nice indeed

Little update on the new addition to the Hobbs household, the new baby will be having a SDM string on it before sight marks are set ready for the year ahead.
My club has a 1 arrow shoot next weekend which I would have loved to go to but seeing as I'm only sighted to 20 yds at the mo and no time to get 'tuned' in I may have to give it a miss this year
|
Steve B
|
Bummer mate, you are just going to love shooting that baby
|
Liam
|
Well if I get 10 & 30 yds sighted up in the garden I might just make it see how the week goes
|
Joe(thebow)M
|
I still have a soft spot for a well made compound bow with good looking lines. Liam, I think that is one heck of bow and I bet it shoots great!
|
Liam
|
Ive never shot a bow that feels so good, havent shot that many to be fair, but even the new BowTech's I tried didn't feel as good as this.
Merlin really have a great bow in the XV and the new limbs should see that the recent problems are firmly in the past

My, such enthusiasm! Will look forward to a thorough exposition, Liam. Certainly will blind your competitors on the line, at least.

I would go for it Liam. Some of my most enjoyed competitions have been with new bows and no real sight marks. You'll know the bow by the end of the day and the guessing everything takes a lot of pressure off you. Just do it!! Try and get a 50 first if you can, everything else will drop in between 10, 30 and 50
