Bow Strings

Can anyone tell me the differences between the different types of bowstring material please, i have bought a dacron string but see there are other sorts. are the any benefits to my using a different string?

OK I am not an expert on strings  stu would be better one to answer this question. Having said that here is a first pass at an answer.

The side ways forces  (the forces that push your arrow) are nothing compared to the forces exerted along the length of the string.

Some string materials stretch a bit, some are more ridged. This can lead to different vibrations going through the bow on loose.

For a wooden bow like yours I would stick with the Dacron as you need a little bit of flex in the string to not damage the bow.

also your string doesn't just move in a straight line back to the bow on loose, and different string materials will have different behaviours.

Fast flight is/was a common one for metal riser recurve take down bows. I personnally never liked it that much, it had too much of a dead sound to me.

I personnally preffer Brownings TS1 Plus, but I believe Stu uses 8*** (where the *s = numbers I cannot remember)

It is kind of an experiment thing to see what you like best, and what best suits you.

But as I said at the start Stu369 would be best to answer this

Oh BTW Stu369 is the guy behind SDMStrings (see link in the friends of AR section to the left)

Dacron is more forgiving to the bow and archer
FF is less forgiving and could damage some bows

If your not sure what to use go with dacron, it'll give a softer shot and the loss in speed is negligible.

I use FF but as flemish spliced just to give it a little shock absorbency, i also use puff ball silencers to tune the string to my arrows.
