Bow sights

My darling husband has agreed to buy me new sights for my Christmas. I'm down to a choice of 2, the surelock quest x or the cooper john equivalent.
Does anyone on here use these and have any feedback. I kind of know the surelock will do all I want but have never seen the cooper john in the flesh but am leaning towards this one on looks (I like the more industrial look).
I shoot only field, roughish terrain, all weathers outdoor. Any help appreciated.

Not certain about the Surelock, the Copper John's one of the "in" things over here in the hunting fields. Sometimes looks don't really mean much in this business, but it's got a very solid reputation in the USA. I prefer the vertical-pin style, as I dislike all the posts sticking into the field of view in side-mounted pins, but that's my choice. From what I've seen, the CJ will always be a good choice for most people.
Blackcat

Its surelock that seems most popular over here but I've never been one to follow the crowd. Might post this on a US based forum to et some technical feedback on the cooper john.

Thanks
Steve B

Just a few comments here. Surloc are a great product, but the Gibbs family are known for their expensive prices...... as an example I just recently bought a new sight the Copper John sight was $100AUD cheaper and in my opinion better.

Make of that what you will but I would say the Copper John everytime, I am impressed with the antys sight I have.

Hi Blackcat,

I have looked at both sights for both recurve and compound. In the end I went for the Sure Loc for both. They have never let me down and I have found them 100% reliable. I do know people that have used the Copper John sites and are pleased with them but for me they seemed a little poorer in build quality.

Having used Sure Loc for nearly 3 years now I am more than delighted with them and would not consider any other sight other than Shibuya (for my recurve) which I also used for an extended time. Again I found it to be 100% reliable and of excellent build quality so it may be worth considering as well.

Hope this of help

As you would imagine I have had a few sights in my time Obviously only a couple of these were recurve ones

My Copper John (the one I have been using for two years) is robust, doesn't jump etc but I found it very stiff for maybe 15 months. The third axis, in fact the windage unit itself is a real pain to set up and the silver on silver scale was, to my rather useless short sighted eyes was illegible until U-V "blued" it for me.

My Toxonics sights, were very good, (I have had 3 so far) absolutely bullet proof, easy to set up, easy to read and a pleasure to own. I only moved from them because I was led to believe was life would be less shiny without one. I don't go shopping there any more, because it isn't.

My SureLoc Sumpreme was an absolute dream to own, the only thing was the sight attachment was by two rubber blocks held i by 2 very tiny screws. These broke or felt out on a couple of occasions, which Gibbs replaced FOC, after the dealer wouldn't, saying I should buy a Toxonic, in the end I did, see above.

My Merlins, Were also bullet proof, U-V has two of them, well engineered, easy to set up the only thing I found slightly annoying was that the sight scale was on the front and at the time I was using the sight scale and a 38" long rod. I understand the Merlin sight is under re design at the moment.

Of the ones I haven't tried but would love to are the
Shibuya, This sight is beautiful to look at and more silky smooth than a silky smooth thing in a vat of molten chocolate
Axcell, Wow, engineered to withstand a nuclear strike, 40 click adjustment, pure bloke archery porn!

For now, I'll stick with my CJ, It's not hurting anything, I can read it now and it has finally loosed up, It's going to take a very convincing shop owner to get my readies out of me, so it can't be that bad I suppose

Sure loc for me, I have one over a year now, and it hasn't done me wrong, it is acurate, consistant, and well made.

I doubt my shooting would improve making a switch to anything else, practise might though

I have the Quest X. It's a really well made sight and is quick to adjust (what you need for field) The only problem that I have with it...and I think this is where the CJ is better...is that if you use a fibre-optic sight pin, you need to adjust the angle of the pin when you go from long to short range shots.

From what I understand about the CJ, this happens automatically. I can't say anything about the build quality of the CJ as I've never actually played with one.

I am very happy with my Sure-loc though.
Blackcat

Ratfighter you are an evil man according to jimbow cause I now want an Axcell sight, amn that is one good looking bit of kit. Down to the CJ or Axcell now.

Some very good advice when I shot sights when I was in target I used a Summit 2 by arten but they are really out fo date the lst sight that I tried was the toxonic that Ratfighter mentioned and thought it was really good

Not only are they out of date, but they are CR*P. I have never seen such a poorly engineered precision device. We used to recomend them as a good cheep first sight for our beginners, but not anymore. In fact it the recent ones have put me off Artan sights altogether. Considering they are about £60 there are loads more reasonable sights for your money.

I quite liked my arten sight there was nothing wrong with it but there again I never used to shoot it that much better without sights btu the Toxoxnics are pretty good for recurves

The early ones were fine, the more recent ones, nothing was a snug fit, everybit rattled loose after a few shots. I was in one tournament whenthe windage adjustment fell apart. It was after that that I change sight, other members of my group followed suit after similar problems.
bowblamer

Can't fault my Sureloc, it never comes loose or rattles and adjustment is great.
Hopefully i will never have to buy another but if i do would be another Sureloc for sure.
Selwoc

I have had my Sure-Loc for about three years, it has never given me any problems and still operates like new.
