Bickerstaffe wood combinations

Here's one for you,

I've been looking on the Bickerstaffe website for a new longbow,
As my wife....... sorry, As my wallet, (same thing I guess) is keeping me within the budget of the standard classes, can anyone recomend a combination of woods for its construction?
I'm not too bothered about the "oooh, thats really exotic wood" factor, I just want one that will shoot consistantantly.
Any advice welcome,
(even from Freds Pan-tastic wife).
Liam

My father in law purchased the Standard Longbow from Bickerstaffe's and he loves it, the only inconsistency is him

guess i'm like your father-in-law then..

i'm just hoping to get one, that may help my aim.

Also it will stop Greg saying "A bad workman always blames his tools" everytime I loose a duffer, and start cursing.

If Pip is using a combination then it is pretty much a dead cert that that combination will work and work well. He is a really helpful chap so have a chat with him, I'm sure if there is some particular combination that for some reason would work better for you he will happily tell you
Neil

thanks dtalbot,

sounds like simple advice

Yep,
Spent about 3/4 of an hour chatting to him when I went to buy a backing strip for a bow I'm making and have lost count of the number of emails of helpful advice on my project he has sent me.

yes, we went on the bickerstaffe workshops tour, and I think the choice of wood seems to be a cosmetic thing generally, as the bows are all made to perform well.
I am tempted to have one made, and for me the issues are if the bow will hold up to the shooting, as I have heard that they can split and get you! That sounds a bit scary. Pip Bickerstaff told me that his wont, (even in cold weather?) They put them on a streatcher thing at the workshop to test 'em.

I quite like the one stick bow, made out of one piece!

Hope you get one, please report back!
