Beginners Course Week 6

FINISHED all done.
we had comp between us beginners just 12 arrows and i won with 98 points with 2 X's
then we were trying different bows. i've tried longbow first #50 @28, shoot 12 arrows now i need chiropractic and few other specialists   . its interesting to shoot it because you need much more skill and much bigger muscles
then i tried another compound (i've already tried one #34 @27 i think) and i like it more and more, it was young girls compound #27 @??
they measured us and told us approx what should we buy and mine is:
68'' bow
#34
arrows 28'' thats with added extra 1.5'' i think. they couldnt tell us arrow spine because someone didnt bring some book
now i want your advice people on what should i get
i had my eyes on some things but i want your advice people

Well done Joe

I think its best to stay with recurve for a while to get your technique and help build up you muscles

Regards the arrow spine if you buy a bow from a dealer they will advise you on this but have a look on the Quicks website (Left portal) they have an arrow spine chart in their catalogue good luck

As a rough guide I would think a 1716 would be about right for you and ally would be best to start with

But see what the others have to say about it

joe croatia

thanks dawn.
and what you think about riser, limbs etc...

Joe the list is endless.

Do you want to shoot traditional kit, i.e. longbow AFB recurve with wooden arrows, or go down the compound road with allys or carbons.

If you have been bitten bad by the archery bug, it doesn't matter what you try first as you'll end up with them all anyhow.

A good second hand long axle compound around 50 pounds draw would be a good starting point for the dark side.

For trad a recurve or flatbow at say 40 pound draw at 28" would be ok for starters.

I have been at it for around 20 years and i'm still looking for the perfect set up.

I think my 45# Hoyt Gamemaster with allys is about the most accurate field bow i have owned, easy to tune and a pleasure to shoot.

Tell us the class you want to shoot in and is it field or target?
joe croatia

cheers mate!
as advised i think i'll stay with recurve for start to get everything right and then who knows...
i'll go for target for now, maybe till summer till i get bit better. and because i have to travel about 30 miles to first field club and i dont drive in uk yet(not legally anyway ), i'm passing my test soon tho .

As Kirk says the list is endless

If you go down the recurve road then you have the decision wether to have a one piece or a take down, one piece have a wooden riser.

A lot of it is personal choice as to which bow you like the feel of, whatever you decide be sure to try several different bows just to find out what feels best for you

Don't look at spending too much money for your first bow as you may well want to upgrade quite soon, the secondhand market is a good starting point as you can usually sell these on to someone else in the same position, that is if you can bring yourself to part with it I dont know how many bows I have but several of them are training bows

Joe if your going down the recurve route, try Ebay. You can get some real good deals on there.

If you see something you like post a link on here and someone will check it out for you, as there is a lot of rubbish about as well.

If i see anything worth looking at i'll PM you.
