Welcome Celtic Dragon.  To what is perhaps the most friendly forum on the internet.  Get stuck right in with the posting, you'll have a great time, and why not tell us a bit about yourself?

Adam.

Good evening.

Well the real name is Simon and I'm a ..................

Well I'm here to find out more about an old hobby after it was pointed out on another forum. I'm an ex target archer for 12 years, but then discovered the ACF and rifles, that and a shoulder injury forced me out of the game.

Well I'm moving this weekend and will be 3 miles from Avalon Archers if they'll have me.

Because of work (is that word banned here ) I spend alot of time on call so need to be close to home for call outs. When I'm not on call I can indulge in other hobbies like rifles and photography.

Still trying to decide what kind of bow I want, although 2 I know I will get are a Longbow and Mongolian style. Its the first bow thats causing a dilema. Well thats not quite true, as its not my first bow, but my first for field. Do I go for a AFB or compound, that is the question. Tempted to go AFB because of the cost implications, and I'm going to have to retrain as a southpaw.

Anyway thats enough from me, and I have an order to get ready for Quicks in the morning. I'm on call this weekend and I might as well spend it making arrows.

If you see someone trying to use a flint tip, chances are its me. Oh yes thats an other interest of mine, Wilderness living.

Simon

I have quite a few questions, but the important 1 can only be asnwered by me with bow in hand.

Although as for arrows, 5/16ths for a 30 - 35 draw weight will suit me fine I think, unless anyone voices the opposite.

The everyday arrows will be pretty mundane, wood shafts with red, white and blue fletchings and fluro green nocks.

However, once I can get to Norfolk to get some flint.... They will be the ones you'll want to see

Doubt I'll get time to do photo's, I don't get enough time to do my press stuff (website is in my profile)

Yup I'll be that close, and purely by accident too Though I do see 1 problem. As I am so comfortable in woodland, I won't want to leave.

I've been through the gallery and I notice quite a few bushcrafty pics in there

Sounds fine to me    I am sure one of our arrow specialists will add their comments

Have a look at J F Tibbets and The Longbow Shop, links to both in the left portal

I've split the arrow talk off in to a separate thread here.
