Have just bought Matthew Strickland and Robert Hardy's hefty tome Warbow. What a read. A little bit heavy on the old grey matter, but it is certainly confirming a few things I had already read in other books. For those interested in the Longbow / Warbow, it is worth getting, if only to show to those unbelievers who think that a bow under 100lb draw did not exist in medieval times, or cannot be shot accurately. _________________ The perfect stance = a beer in each hand

I second that, Haywain, mine came in yesterday after a month on order. It will sit nicely next to Hardy's last work, though it dwarfs that in volume and detail. The most interesting thing I've read so far.....effective range was 200-250yards. Tested using doplar radar. The arrows would only lose only approximately 10-15% of their kinetic energy throughout the flight. Due in the main because they were falling for the last part of their trajectory, and would in fact speed up making up for the lost speed from the rise on the first part of their flight - the effect of gravity on a heavy arrow. _________________ The perfect stance = a beer in each hand

Hello Rainmaker, I just finished finding the book on Amazon.com and while I was there I just couldn't stop at this one book. I ordered the following; The Great Warbow: From Hastings to the Mary Rose Secrets of the English War Bow The Crooked Stick: A History of the Longbow (Weapons in History) Darn it, it's like eating cashews, once you find a potential interesting read you just want to dig in for more and more references. I'm sure I'll enjoy all three as Winter is fast approaching in my part of the world and some good reading is just the way to pass those winter months that are coming. _________________ Joe(thebow)M
