Its over and I'm in trouble, I've got the competition bug....     This game was supposed to be R+R!!!

It has to be said I really enjoyed the 1st day, and apart from a couple of stupid mistakes made on range finding, it went well. I cleared the course and only required 3 second arrows. 1 arrow is now in the great hole of missing arrows   I shot a branch, the arrow passed straight through, and vanished!!!! No fletches on the floor, just the hole in the branch.. oh well, lets chalk that 1 up to experiance

Day 2 was a different ball game, I started off alright untill I hit the long bison across the valley, I blanked it and everything went south from there.    From that point on I was hemorrhaging points like water in a colander and I was not happy.

Shot of the day has to go to Steve P who finished second in C/U. On the standing bear on day 2, he decapitated it     He over ranged it, hit the head and it gave up the fight and snapped off, more amazingly his arrow survived!!! Problem being I followed him, still laughing, over ranged it and went over the top, exactly where its head would have been!!! Lesson 1, don't try and shoot giggling, it don't work!!

Over all though it was a good weekend, and I allowed me to put some faces to names on here, I bumped into Pooka (well done for picking up another trophy ) and Corbarwolf ( I recognised his tracers on his arrows from the thread) and I think I saw Black Eagle walking round, the arrows in the quiver looked like his Devon Challenge ones he posted a pic of on here.

Now for the shocker, and the bit that made me very nervous. At the end of day 1 I was placed second in C/L with a 718!!! Day 2, I scored 702, which and this is the bit I can't get my head round, I won C/L class with a 1420 total!! I was expecting a 4th or 5th place finish.

Now I'm waiting to go into work on weds to see the on call rota so I can plan the next shoot to go to!

So I'd just like to finish with a thank you to everyone I shot with for putting up with me, and for Avalon putting on a great weekend.

We too went to Avalon for yet another 2 day shoot, i'm heading for a divorce at this rate, it's a good job my wife loves me so.
I have never enjoyed any pastime as much as i enjoy this archery lark.
It was really good to meet yet another couple of archers rest members,
Celtic Dragon and Selwoc, hi guys.
Both of them took Gold
Celtic was visibly shell shocked   Well done and long may it continue, see you at the next shoot.
The shoot is one of the best on the calendar, great woods, all 3D's, fantastic placements and sunshine all day.

Pooka also had a great w/e she shot an admirable 478 on the Saturday.
When the scores were posted on the Sunday Morn, she was the only one in her class so no comp. for her on the Sunday    Gold without shooting
So we decided that she may as well shoot Adult class so instead of White Blue Blue pegs she would shoot Red White Blue and really enjoyed the day much more for it....she came in with a score of 450. Which i feel was tremendous being 2nd day, tired and achy, little sleep the night before (some fella snoring apparently, never heard it myself   )  peg stretched and we also thought a tad harder 2nd days shoot.

Well done Avalon, Celtic and Selwoc, and Pooka too.

I didn't realise Pooka had shot the red white blue pegs   She did very well.

I don't know how seriously she takes the comps, but doing that is a very good way of forcing you to raise your game and learn. Its the reason I like being grouped with the unlimited gang, it forces me to do better.

I shot both days with Chris Lovelock, and set myself a goal of being within 120 points of him at the end of the day. OK it ended up being nearer 200 but still it stopped be saying "that will do" to myself.

PS: Watched Dr Who yet??

Well done Celtic Dragon, breaking 1400 on your first ever field shoot in any class is pretty formidable, especially one as technically challenging.  Sorry, I didn't get to meet you, but I was there to see you get you trophy, even though I didn't know it was you.

Nice to have met Cobrawolf and Pooka, after seeing the photos of the Fort shoot, I easily identified you by the red and white spotty top   . Well done Pooka, your score on day 2 off the adult pegs was very good, I also  thought day 2 was harder.

You will have to come and say hi next time. Just popped into work on my day off to pick up the on call rota and had a quick chat with the boss, crossed fingers I might be at your shoot in 2 weeks!!!! I will find out on weds if he will let me go. I have to find out if the result was a fluke!!!!!!

Well done

I really like Avalon, I would go as far as to say it's the best NFAS shoot in the country (not that I've been to every shoot in the country).  I was really wanting to do this one but it was the same weekend as the Cumbria Challenge and seeing as it's my local shoot I thought I'd better do it.
