|
|
Following on from a few problems some users have had with posting pictures JimN has come up with this guide on how to do it.
| JimN wrote: | Creating An Account In PhotoBucket
* In your web-browser go to http://photobucket.com/
* Select "join now"
* Enter a Username
* you will be warned if your selected username has already been taken and a list of alternatives will be displayed. Select a username from the list or enter a new username until you find a unique one
* Enter a Password
* Re-enter the same password
* Click "Next step"
* Enter the relevant details on the next page
* Note: Only the e-mail address needs to be 'real'
* Enter the letters & numbers in the 'weird code' in the relevant box (this is a security measure to ensure automatic programs cannot create accounts)
* Clear the 'YES! I would like to receive a free ringtone.' or any other 'offers' that are shown
* Read the Terms of Service and the Privacy Policy
* Click 'I accept. Sign me up!'
Your account should now have been created. If there are any problems an error message will be displayed saying what the problem is and you should be able to resolve it. |
| JimN wrote: | Adding An Image To PhotoBucket
Note: You have to be logged into your PhotoBucket account
* If required click the name of the sub-album where you wish to add the image
* To add one or more images from your computer
---* To add more than one image click Add more images
---* For each image to be added click the Browse button
---* A file selection window will be displayed
---* Navigate to the folder containing the image you wish to upload using the
------* Shortcuts on the left
------* Folder list at the top
------* Folder & file list in the main pane
------* File name input box at the bottom
---* Select an image file (i.e. one that ends in .jpg, .jpeg, .gif, .png, etc.)
---* You may optionally enter an image title
---* Repeat until you have selected all the images to be uploaded
* To add images from another location on the web
---* Select web url
------* Enter the URL (web address) into the box provided
* Below the list of images to be uploaded notice the Uploading Options
* This will show the maximum size of image that will be uploaded. If the selected image is larger than this it will be re-sized. If it is smaller it will remain un-changed
---* The maximum sized can be changed be clicking on Uploading Options. A list of available sizes will be displayed, click the maximum size you require (for an image to be displayed in a forum such as Archers Rest then Message Board (640 x 480) or Website, Email (320 x 240) work best.
------The options in grey are unavailable for a 'free' PhotoBucket account.
* Click Upload
* All you images will now be uploaded. If you have a large number of images, or a lot or resizing is required or you are on a slow speed connection then this may take a few minutes. |
| JimN wrote: | Resizing Images In PhotoBucket
Note: you can only resize the image to a smaller size and once the image has been resized it cannot be reverted back to the original size
* Select Edit at the top of the image to be re-sized
* Above the image you have Resize followed by a little triangle
* Click the triangle to select from a list of pre-defined resize amounts
* Avatar (100 x 75)
* Thumbnail (160 x 120)
* Website, Email (320 x 240)
* ...
* A message box will pop up warning you that you are about to resize the image. Select OK to resize the image (if you are sure you want to, otherwise click cancel)
* Your resized image will now be displayed |
| JimN wrote: | Showing An Image From PhotoBucket In A Forum Post
* Below each image is a list of options that can be used to refer to the image outside of PhotoBucket
* To use your image in a forum topic:
---* Start your topic in the forum (i.e. by selecting New Topic or by replying to an existing topic)
---* Click the box next to IMG Code below the required image
---* The selected text should be automatically copied to your computers clipboard (if the following steps do not work return here and copy the selected text manually (right-click, copy or ctrl-c)
---* Return to your forum copy and paste the image (right-click, paste or ctrl-v) the text into the relevant position in the topic.
---* Click Preview to ensure that the image is shown correctly and that it is the right size. |

Failing this you may use our own uploader by clicking on attach file when posting a message, this again requests that you browse your pc for the desired picture, please leave the image size at 640 x 480.
Photobucket or similar is the prefered method as they do not impact on the forums size.

Of course there are other image hosts available, if anybody wants instructions on another image host then let me have the URL and I'll see what I can do.
If you want to resize an image on your PC (i.e. if you want to create an avatar that's 80x80) I highly recommend IrfanView. It's exceedingly easy to use, just load your image and select Resize/Resample from the Image menu. Select one of the pre-defined sizes on the right or enter a value in the "Set new size" boxes. Also it's best to ensure that "Preserve aspect ratio" is ticked unless you know what you are doing, otherwise you could get a squashed/stretched image.
