|
|
So, perhaps I'm over-analysing, but in so doing I'm feeling lost with a basic principle - how should the bowarm and shoulders line up? Most pictures of archers are taken side on, showing that their bowarm is horizontal with the ground (that bit I understand) but there seem to be very few birdseye views.
What is the correct posture? Looking on the net I found this image:
From this image, the shoulderblades are inline and the bowarm is more toward the body to bring the bowhand inline with the draw-arm so that the bow is in a straight line with the target, and the dominant eye is looking down the shaft of the bow.
OR
should the bowarm be inline with the shoulderblades? Like in this picture:
However, what seems wrong to me in this picture is that the arrow is clearly aimed off to the left - so is the whole body rotated to compensate? In order to line up the arrow.
Which is right?
Sorry if this seems like such a silly and basic question.

Don't forget you have to take into account the Archers paradox, the Arrow will not loose in the direction it is pointing when drawn

The arrow flies along a path, that viewed from above, is the almost the same as the line of sight.
Your bow arm will never be on that line as the aiming eye is not above your bow shoulder, but a few inches over to the right.
The third picture down shows the arrow and bow arm in a, close to ideal, position in relation to one another. Body shape has a lot to do with how close the individual can get to that ideal. The closer the draw hand can get to the bow shoulder, viewed from above, the less muscle strength will be needed to hold the arm in place on the gold. The draw force put into the bow, is also acting against the bow hand trying to pull the arm across the body, or to the right.
